So I picked up a Bridgestone J33r driver that was brand new for 49 bucks. I really like the driver especially the head, cant get a more classic style head imo. However I am a natural low ball hitter and this driver came with a Aldila NV s 65 shaft. This is a low launching shaft and Im really hitting low bullets and tons of roll with it. I would like to see a little more height in my shots and a little more feel and smoothness at impact. What shaft do you guys recommend I look at ?

btw, Im not really looking for something thats really high launching at all. I just dont need such a low launching shaft as the aldila

Depends on the brand but each shaft manufacturer has a large selection of either high kickpoint or low kickpoint shafts. a low kickpoitn shaft will help get the ball up a bit but depending on your swing as well, you might want to check and make sure you get fitted with optimal backspin, etc.

I say if you can find a good mid kickpoint shaft, you can probably get a better trajectory with the 10.5* driver.

yea I really like the titleist diamana blueboard shaft in my hybrid. Ive heard the titleist version isnt as good as the normal diamana but its cheaper. Thats what I was considering at first but there are just so many options out there

Yeah i wouldn't keep your focus on one specific manufacturer. there are a lot of manufacturers who create some great quality shafts.

Another cheaper alternative to the blueboard you might want to consider is the ProLaunch Blue. If you can find an aftermarket blueboard designed for Titleist or Cleveland, i've heard that they're not as smooth... but i have a designed for Cleveland Whiteboard on my Cleveland DST Tour and I absolutely love the shaft.

Get fitted if you can - even if just for the shaft. Most places will waive the fitting fee if you get the shaft from them. Some things are visual - like launch. But if you're getting a new shaft, you might as well take a look at how it affects your spin on a monitor.

I think you can get some Diamana BB pullouts on eBay for like $70-80 which isn't too bad. Where did you score a deal like that?

well I was playing golf with a friend last night and he had the Taylormade R7 Limited with the tour model matrix shaft (like 300 dollar shaft, not the taylormade matrix). I hit it on a few holes and absolutly loved it, the shaft had great ballflight for me alot better than the aldila. So I lucked out and found one with the tour shaft and traded my bridgestone for it. I like the R7 limited better than the R9 which I considered awhile back

Wow... so how long did you have that Bridgestone for, like a week? Damn. You go through clubs so freakin' fast! Yesterday you really liked the driver and today it's gone... Wow.

haha, No I really liked the head nothing else tho. I didnt like the shaft and couldnt get a good ball flight when hitting it. Tried that R7 and it was a total difference. Thats what happens when you shop blind off of ebay, lol. I dont mind though, I got the same amount that I bought it for since it was such a deal

yea, well it just really sucked not being able to get trajectory on my drives. I normally hit decent drives with medium trajectory. That bridgestone was making me hit low line drive shots everytime that I didnt care for. The aldila is seriously the lowest launching shaft Ive ever hit.

you gotta make sure its what really suits you
I was teeing mine basically off the deck and it was going straight up in the air. and ballooning at like the 260-270 mark it was stupid how high it went.

i still ballooned the hell out of the Aldila NV's. Try swinging a Prolaunch Red. its like a broom stick.

I was just going to say that, I didn't think the NV was particularly low-launching (at least it wasn't for my swing). Prolaunch Red or Prolite 35 are two extremely low-launching/affordable shafts.

i wouldnt mind trying it. If you ballooned the aldila nv thats pretty wild, it might of been the bridgestone head and that shaft combo i dont know.

The NV is a low-med trajectory shaft. Still has some kick to it. I'd rate it similar in feel to how my whiteboard feels on my Cleveland.

Could be the head and shaft combo but with 10.5* loft + low-med trajectory shaft, should get plenty of lift, given that your swing speed works for it. Point being - should've gotten fitted...even with your new purchase... might've been better off just spending a bit of money to get fitted for the right shaft. Good thing you didn't lose any money from the trade.
