Spinal alignment golf shaft

So i was gonna get my driver shaft today then someone was like hey you should go get it spinally aligned since its the same price
Is it acutally gonna make a difference or is it just a ploy?

In my opinion, this is just another buzzword that too many grab onto. Shafts do not have "spines" or any structural design feature that dictates it's direction for loading and unloading. Due to the manufacturing process, there is however an optimal orientation of the shaft that can yield tighter clubhead dispersion when oscillating.

The clubfitter that installed my Motore shaft "spined" it, although it seemed like a simple observation of how it oscillated at different orientations. This was done free of charge and seemed to be a pretty low-tech thing.

Does it make a difference where the rubber meets the road? Maybe for a tour player. I'm happy if I hit the dead center a few times a round, and I'm fairly sure my bad swing has much more to do with that than aligning a shaft optimally whose inherent deflection is very minimal. Although a big issue on the interwebs, a high capper getting all gay for spine aligning their shafts is probably pretty trivial in the grand scheme of shot outcomes.

yeah, well the installation isnt anymore than a golfsmith installation and somoene told me to goto this guy i was just wondering if it was worth the drive is all.
Some say it might be worth it some say not at all.
I might in theory it makes sense, but applicably on a swing.... that'll remain to be proven.
I guess it depends on the shaft and how much of a "spine" there really is on it

i think its worth it.

for me, i feel i get more centered hits with it done. less twisting the wrong way during the swing.

it might be all in my head, but ive been playing much better since i had it done (to all my clubs), so im happy with it.

In 30 years of golf I have never even imagined that a club was "twisting the wrong way".

This mumbo jumbo ranks up there with people saying that certain tees feel "cleaner" when you drive.

the theory of it makes sense to me but practiclaly is a whole different thing.
basically its drive an hour get it installed at golfsmith
or drive 45 minutes to an hour get it aligned and installed by a master clubbuilder bob something who keeps winning club builder of the year

Depends on the shaft really. For graphite shafts I haven't noticed much of a difference. Then again, my shafts have all spined w/the label down which is how I had them installed before spining so YMMV. Iron shafts, on the other hand, spining is noticeable. Again, this will depend on your shaft but TT DG's should always have some sort of alignment done during install (pick your favorite flavor).

is it worth it for a 12-14 cap person to drive 1 hour both ways possibly twice to get his driver spined?

I figure my own spinal alignment contributes at least a couple orders of magnitude to my swing accrucy more than any spine in the club shaft and is far more difficult to get right consistently. Personally, I wouldn't bother. If you get down to scratch it might be worth the trouble just to have something else clear your head, but until then I can't imagine you'd notice a difference.

I understand your OCD (golfitus variety) and to relieve any doubt you should get it spined so that when you hit a bad drive you know it is you and not your shaft. I feel your pain. I don't think that it will make a difference in your handicap but it will allow you to sleep better at night.

i just got it done
actually i'm happy i did because he knows what he's doin where as the golfsmith people might now
and when you feel the spine ... it actually is quite a difference.

If you think it will make a difference, it will. If you have doubts it won't. I tried it once, but it wasn't free then, and I could not tell the difference. But I suspect there might be, just wasn't a detectable difference for me. So I would do it again, but not if I had to pay for it.

Well it was 20 bucks for the install with this guy or at golf smith
but i also got it cut to the length that was right for me and knew it was getting done properly
the spine isnt on the logo on the shaft i got, and when its setup you can see/feel it twist
maybe its all in our heads but in theory itll make a difference
but if i'm gonna pay the same price for install.... why not get it spined so its eliminated from my mind
