I'm looking to get an R9 and wanted to know the difference between the regular Supertri and Supertri TPdrivers? (Besides the sick looking all black club head). I know for such clubs as the irons, the TP irons are more of a players club, smaller face, less forgiving and such. Is that the same for the drivers? I'm not sure how you would make a driver more or less of a players club. Thanks for the help.

It's primarily a difference in the shaft. The TP model has a real Motore F1.

I found a nicely priced TP Supertri and I'm going to go with that unless you would recommend against it for my HC?

difference in shaft and the TP is very slightly open. doesn't have a smaller head or anything. Literally the same driver, different shaft, head is placed 1 or 2* open.

no. if you're prone to slices at all, then the slight open face can cause you to hit some ugly ugly shots.

I thought the supertri drivers had the adjustable face so you adjust to a straight face?

Oh. i was under the wrong impression that the TP model did not have an adjustable face. In that case, I believe the only difference will be the shaft then...Golf Galaxy does say that the TP version has a lower CG than the non-TP version... not sure what that means though.

You would experience an upgrade in the shaft. If you're a decent driver of the golf ball I would suggest you go with it, especially if you found it at a great price.
As your swing improves you'll eventually benefit from the better shaft as it will be more accurate than a "made for" shaft. Plus, you can adjust the head to favor whatever trajectory you prefer.

My driving is the best part of my game in my opinion. Thanks for the help.

There is absolutely no difference between any R9 head and its comparable TP head; the ONLY difference is the shaft and the FCT shaft adapter. As said above, the TP and non-TP use different shafts, but each shaft can be unscrewed and put in any other R9 head. The main difference between the TP and non-TP shafts/adapters is that the TP drivers come with a .335" tip shaft (and corresponding adapter) and the non-TP drivers come with a .350" tip shaft (and corresponding adapter).

The only problem you might run into is if you try to install a non-stock shaft into an R9 adapter; you just have to make sure you get the correct addater (.335" = TP and .350" = non-TP).

Surely there has to be some trade off for forgiveness in the TP model? Smaller sweet spot for more workability?

I purchased the Supertri and it will be here tomorrow but I couldn't find the differences between the Supertri and the Superdeep. What is the difference?

the Superdeep is basically the Supertri with a very deep face.

Another question is I purchased an R9 3 Wood on ebay a while back but it came without the tool for the FCT. With the Supertri I just purchased, I will be receiving the tool. Is the tool for the Supertri driver the same as the one for the R9 3 wood?

Should be the same tool. It will click when the bolt is tightened enough.

toddmlazarchick,

as i hope you've learned from other golfers on this forum, golfro is 100% incorrect. he says the TP is "very slightly open." in fact, the difference in TP and non-TP in the TM line of R9 golf woods/metals is purely the choice in shaft, and that's it. R9 has face changing technology (FCT) and all TP and non-TP clubs can be 1° closed and up to 2° open, in .5° increments. so the notion of "very slightly open" simply does not apply in any of the contemporary TM driver/fairway wood/metal products.

    • Interesting for sure. I have actually had my instructor try to get me to get the elbow in front as well. That actually spiraled me into the slump I am currently working out of. I would disagree with him saying that lowering the arm might be the simplest and easiest move in golf 😄. I am having SOO much trouble making that move instead of my hands immediately moving toward the ball from the top. It's like my mind has 0 patience at the top and tells me to GO GO GO.

    • I generally like par-3 courses and find it a darn shame that the last of them closed in my area during the pandemic. Part of it may have to do with the fact that I never have been very good with the longer clubs, so the short holes are a bit more my speed.  Being able to get in 18 holes in two hours was pretty convenient and, ironically, the lack of crowds made them peaceful places to be. Naturally, that's the same reason they no longer exist around here.  The second option sounds like a whole lot of no fun.
