Just read that ever Ping club should have a colored dot on it for the lie angle. I have what looks like a Ping Anser 2i putter, but there is nothing indicating a lie angle on it. Am I looking in the wrong place, or is this possibly a knockoff?

Post pics of the putter and you'll get better feedback.

Im not sure if the realy old ones do?? but look for a serial number and call ping with it

The problem with getting the serial number and calling Ping is that the counterfeiters take a serial number from a real Ping putter and put it on the counterfeit putters.

To answer about the serial, there is none on this putter that I know of.

Here's photos, sorry for the size, but better to have too much than not enough. I redid the paintfill, so obviously that's not original or correct.

Also, for what it is worth, the putter would have been purchased in 1998 or 1999. Not sure when Ping started putting serials on clubs; I know some clubmakers didn't start doing it until after the turn of the millenium. It was received as a gift, and I believe purchased at an Air Force Base to avoid taxes.

if you putt well with it, does it matter if it's fake?

I am fairly sure ping have been using their colour code system from the start. Even the eye 2 irons from way back have a coloured dot. It would be wierd if they just decided not to do it for this model, and for that reason, i would say there is something fishy about it. But hey, just search the putter into google images and see if any of the images have a dot on them.

Mizuno MX200 4-PW S | Ping Tour W 50/12 X | Ping Tour W 58/TS X | A selection of putters, all 35.5 inches.

I have a Ping Anser 2 in the garage (replaced by a Scotty Cameron SD 2 that is probably in my avatar) and my Ping does NOT have a lie ange dot anywhere. Most Ping putters I have seen do NOT have dots on them. Most irons do....

Granted, my Anser 2 is an old, old model (still Patent Pending stamped right on it) but none of the old models have it, I'm sure of that. I would not classify this as an OLD model per say, just slightly old.

It looks legit to me, I don't believe it is supposed to have a lie angle dot.... it's a putter and Ping does not mess around much with lie angles on the mass produced putters. The lie angles area also adjustable far more easily than an cast iron (not forged). Another reason for them to NOT dot them.

Hooray Indiana and anything Hoosier, although I just moved out of the state for work.

The dot system has certainly been around forever, but like Bryan said, I have seen several non-WRX putters that did not have the dot. The only thing I thought seemed a bit off is the backwards 2 printed inside the cavity. I have no idea what that could be from, and haven't seen any others like it.

Ping Anser 2i

Although Ping has used color codes on it's irons for well over 30 years, the company didn't use it for their putters until 2002. Before then, all Ping putters were at the factory's "default" lie angle, which with the advent of the color coding system became black dot.

I have an Anser 2i like the OPs and it does not have a color code since it was manufactured before 2002. The picture he posted looks like mine and I have no reason to believe it's counterfeit.

For what it's worth, I did a search of PING Anser 2i putters on Google images, and I didn't see anything like yours WITH a dot... I think your putter is legit and you should have no worries.

The dot wouldn't be on any part of the putter that you have displayed with that photo.

Older Ping Anser putters don't have dots.

Hi All You beach bums. I'm new here. because I bought a " Ping " putter Well that's what's printed on the face.? This putter has the Ping style and name but that's as far as it goes.Looks like regular blade putter no other identification marks or serial numbers.

I have pictures if I can get them up, i'm not a geek ;

The putter is 32.5" has a see through polymer face with the name Ping "see  through printed under the polymer. I have searched for an hour through pictures of Ping Putters, and non match this one I'm assuming it's a fake. I have not tried it yet, bought it at Goodwill for $4.98

Nothing to lose here.
