Wasn't me, never will be. My Brother in law is in town visiting and I decided to take him out for 9 holes. He didn't bring his clubs so I told him to take my wife's bag and he could use mine on the course. He told me he has only played about 5 times in his life. Told him that's fine, we're just killing time.

His stroke is real good for never practicing. Him being 6' 4" my clubs were too short for him and he was topping everything. He was taking 8-9s on every hole until the 7th.

Par 3 165 yards, 2 tier green with bunkers on each side. Pin was placed on the lower tier. I hit mine a little short which is fine. Going long on this hole is bad. He tees up and as he is doing his routine I asked him if he has a target when he swings. Explained it's best to have a specific target for each shot. I help him get lined up for the middle of the green. Well, he tops the heck out of another one. Ball rolls and jumps all over the grass making its way to the hole. Ball gets to the green, settles down, and rolls right in the freakin hole.

I go nuts and he says, "Wow, that was easy. Guess I should be aiming for something when I hit."

I know I will probably never get one, but it was amazing seeing that one drop for him. Quite sure he will be golfing more after that shot.

Isn't golf awesome? The crappiest shots imaginable can be just fine and the perfect shots can hit a sprinkler and wind up OB. What a game.

Story of my game!!

Congrats to your Bro-in-law mcgriff! And never say "never" ... it can happen anytime you tee it up! If it can happen to your Bro-in-law on a shot like that, it can certainly happen for you!

Well at least your golf clubs have a hole-in-one now. It's a start.

Didn't think of it that way! Every time I stand over that 7I I will be thinking of it now that you metion it.

Far as never getting one, let's just say it's not in my plans. I was just thrilled to be on the tee box to see that one drop. Edit: BTW, he put the Ace ball in the water on the next hole. Knucklehead. He said he didn't want to take another one out of my bag since he felt bad not paying for anything. Told him he would pay double in beer for losing that ball. Fun day all around.

    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
