For almost a month, I've been unable to play golf. I haven't so much as swung a club, other than a few last night in my apartment (and those were slow, incomplete, so that I don't hit the ceiling). I haven't been to the gym.

It wasn't entirely sickness - it was mostly busy at work, although there were some days of not feeling particularly healthy either. The good news is that, in the process, I have another chapter of my dissertation and a publication in a top conference in my field.

The bad news is that I don't even know how bad my game has gotten. I know my arms and legs are smaller than they were a month ago - and I'm a small guy to begin with.

How do I prioritize getting back? Do I wait until I've regained some muscle and flexibility at the gym? I know I've lost some of each. Or do I head back into golf while regaining my body?

And do I take this as an opportunity to make changes I'd intended, maybe seeing an instructor (after forever of not doing so)?

Any thoughts from the forum will be appreciated. I realize some of you have to leave golf for more than a month, so my complaining that I missed October can't seem too bad to those that know I'll be able to play in November and December. But I hope that some of you have constructive ideas for what I should do at this point.

C'mon man, get back out there. How bad can you be after only a month off? Everyone would benefit from hitting the gym and taking a lesson, but you don't have to do those things before you start playing again. I'd recommend going to the range and assesing your game. Work out whatever kinks you can on your own and then hit the course if you feel ready.

I wouldn't worry to much about muscle atrophy unless you have quite literally spent the last month in bed.
