Currently I play mp52 4-PW and Vokey 52, 56, 60 degree wedges. I love every club in my bag with the exception of the 52* Vokey. I hit it about the same distance as my 56* on a full swing. I've blamed this on a variety of things, but at the end of the day I can't consistently flush it well enough to utilize it as a full swing club. I do love it around the greens and use it as my chip and run club, but I can't justify keeping it in the bag just for that. As it stands, I have about a 25 yard gap between my PW (130) and SW (105).

I'm looking to replace the Vokey 52* with a more forgiving, similarly lofted gap wedge. Ideally I'd like to just add an mp52 gap wedge, but Mizuno does not offer them. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

What shaft do you have in your Vokeys? Maybe work on your wedge swing. I was hitting my 52 degree Vokey 80 yards. Then I thought about how far I hit my Mizuno Pro 52 (it was a 52 at the time) and hit the Vokey a bit harder - 100 yards. Then I decided to just hit it full, like a PW, and see what that yardage is - it's now a 125 yard club in an old set that ends at 8-iron.

I'd suggest 1.) Replace your 52 and 56 with a 54. OR, 2.) Get your existing PW bent 1.5 degrees weaker and the 56 bent to 55 (~ 124 yards and ~ 110 yards).

They are the wedge flex shafts in the Vokey's which I think are S200 in 56* and 60* and S300 in the 52*. I considered a shaft change in the 52*, but I hate to pump $50-$60 into the club and still be unhappy with it. I'm thinking about just picking up something else to try first.

Bending is ~ five dollars. Turn it into a 50 degree.

the Vokeys have S400's as their stock shaft

keep in mind too that bedning it from a 52 to a 50will decrease the bounce from 8º to 6º.....IMO it will make this club dig hard

i never was a fanof the 52º Vokey either and hardly ever used it....and i had two of them at different times

i went from a 52,56,60 set up to a 54,58 set up
for me its much more versatile and i use the 54º a lot more than i ever did the 52

my 52 yardage was my 125max club and 56 was my 110max club
now my 54 is my 118max club and my 58 is my 105max club
ive learned to hit more 3/4 PW shots now and come in w more spin too

The P/G wedge in my bag is a 52 bent to 50.5. I love the fact it digs more. I was too much of a picker before and it's given me the confidence to hit my other wedges harder and take more of a divot. It's a very versatile head design though (can be opened to hit flop shots and it's still nice for those 40 yard bunker shots).

I tend to dig my wedges quite hard as well. I don't want to start screwing around with the bounce on a wedge that only has 7 degrees as it is.

Fantastic - it sounds like you've found one possible solution to your inability to hit your current gap wedge - you're probably hitting it fat.

You're probably right. I'm using the same swing on a full PW or SW...but this is the one that eludes me. I must be chunking them.

At your index I doubt it - I was joking.

i found going to the 54 wedge (it has 12º of bounce) its a much better GW for me
the leading edge on my PW isnt as hard as the Vokey GW, so the 8º bounce on the PW is fine

just some ideas for you, as i was experiencing some of the same deal
as Miller mentioned, with your skill level, its doubtfull yout hitting fat shots all the time, with one club
the bounce and grind on some wedges, just dont work for some people

If you are using the gap wedge mostly as a more lofted pw full swing, why don't you just order a MP T-11 52* with the same lie and shaft as in your MP 52 irons. I did the same and I couldn't be happier.

I had a CG14 that I hated, and went to purchase a Z TP 52* after hitting one of my buddy's. I like the wedge very much, as it has a low profile but is also forgiving and great around the greens. I believe it has 8 degrees of bounce, and I can get a good amount of spin around the greens and on full shots. Just my two cents.

Yea, I am basically looking for a true gap wedge mainly for full shots and some chip and runs. Playing the same shaft is probably a good idea as well since it will be more of an extension of my irons.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
