I know the math on the handicap, and I finally am logging scores in GHIN. I have a set of scores, and can't figure out why it's yielding the index it is. This is straight off GHIN as it's displaying my scores.

Score - rating - slope - diff
89 - 69.9 - 128 - 16.9
88 - 70.7 - 130 - 15
84 - 68.8 - 120 - 14.3
79 - 68.3 - 118 - 10.2
82 - 71.4 - 132 - 9.1
82 - 71.4 - 132 - 9.1
81 - 70.4 - 135 - 8.9
82 - 72.9 - 135 - 7.6
77 - 69.9 - 128 - 6.3

With only 9 scores posted, it should be averaging my best three, which I sorted to the bottom here.

6.3+7.6+8.9 = 22.8
22.8 / 3 = 7.6
7.6 * 0.96 = 7.3

GHIN is telling me a 6.0, which says it's usually just one score. What am I missing?

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

My guess is you only had 5 or 6 score in the computer at the time of the last revision, with only 5 or 6 scores it will only take you best score.

To Be Used
5 or 6 Lowest 1
7 or 8 Lowest 2
9 or 10 Lowest 3
11 or 12 Lowest 4
13 or 14 Lowest 5
15 or 16 Lowest 6
17 Lowest 7
18 Lowest 8
19 Lowest 9
20 Lowest 10

Mind you I am on the RCGA system and we don't have revisions, our HDCP's are calculated the minute we enter them.

Ah, you're probably right, I forgot GHIN doesn't go real-time.

The score list on GHIN should have an asterisk in front of each score that is being used in the current calculation. That might give you a better idea of where your index is coming from.

That's the one I use too. Really simple, and easy to use, rather than dealing with all the offical GHIN stuff.

In the  Strata Bag:

3 Wood:  XL

Irons: 4-5:  AP1; 6-PW:  XL

Wedges:  Tour Grind, 52°/60°

Putter:  White Hot XG #9

Balls:  Mojo

Aside from the cost (a very modest $20), what's tough to use with GHIN? You figure out your ESC score, which you'd have to do anyway, and enter it. If the course isn't on the lookup tables, you just enter it manually.

Unless you actually want an official handicap which is usable for competition purposes.

I don't have an official number this year, and I miss it. I'm getting mine again next year and curious to if its going to move. It should go down as I've gotten better this year.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
