In a hybrid, 22-24° is usually considered (marketed as) a 4i, 25° would be a 5i. What is the loft of your 5i?
In my bag:
Dynacraft Prophet 12° Neutral Driver, SK Fiber Lite Revolution I A-flex shaft
Dynacraft Prophet 16° 3W and 19° 5w, , SK Fiber Tour Trac 80 A-flex shafts
Dynacraft Prophet 23° & 26° Hybrids, SK Fiber ZTri Tec A-flex shafts

I have the same irons as a back up set and when using them I also have the 20* 23* 25* Cobra Hybrids.

A lot depends on the shaft stiffness and how high you hit the ball.
A 25* hybrid is supposed to supplant the 5 iron.
Sometimes the hybrid will fly higher than an iron and thus lose some distance and not be as penetrating in ball flight if the shaft is too whippy.

I used to get good results with the 25* R but now am swinging too strong and it is ballooning and not really serving any purpose.

So it depends on your swing and the ball trajectory.

The 804os are great irons and you should be able to hit the 5 iron as far or farther than you would hit a 25* but some people have trouble with the 5 iron in that set and would do better with the hybrid.

If you can really smack the 5 iron then you probaly don't need the Hybrid, if you can't smack it good, then look into the hybrid, they are easier to hit.

    • Day 39: did top golf for an hour with the family. It was fun but also not really like real golf at all. Also did some mirror work - working on the backswing stuff mostly.
    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
