How important is overall club length in iron fitting? I see some on-line sites (Ping etc) saying I should be 1/2" short although a pro (where I fitted/bought my AP1's) said it doesn't matter if the lie is correct for whatever length. I was never measured for wrist-to-floor which btw is 33". Has club length made any difference to you?

Thanks.

I suggest you take your irons and get fitted elsewhere.

Use the locator below to find someone in your area that knows what they are doing.

I avoid golf shops when it comes to fitting. Been there, done that. Many are clueless.

Find a pro, make an appointment, spend a few hours and do it right.

This guy is no Pro. Take the advice above. Any Edwin Watts or Golf Galaxy or PGA Superstore in your area? You can do a spot check fitting online, but it is best to go to a PGA pro and make sure everything is the correct length, loft, and lie.

The responders are correct to a point, but so is the pro.  Length affects how consistently you make contact.  The same reasoning many shorten their driver shaft length applys for irons also. If you can handle the extra length, then the lie can be adjusted so that it will not affect contact. Since there is very little distance advantage in irons with an extra 1/2 inch length , especially if you make poor contact, there is no reason to play with over length shafts unless your body type or your swing require them. I am not a fan of online fitting.  Your physical attributes and swing determine what shaft length is best for you.  Posture, flexiblity, swing plane etc all affect what is a proper fit.
