Moe Norman gets billed as the greatest golfer you've never heard of, but that title might really belong to Count Yogi. There's a list of his feats that is long and easy to find on the internet, so I won't post it here. The reason you haven't heard of him, we are told, is that his Jewish/AmIndian heritage didn't jive with the all-white tour so he was not allowed to play. Besides, in his day, he could make more money giving exhibitions.

But what I really want to ask is if any of you ever met him, played golf with him, and can give us some insight into his method. He didn't leave behind much in the way of instruction. Despite the hyperbole that might be built into that list of accomplishments, he was the real deal.

I've heard of Count Yogi. Actually there is a member at my club that used to play with him and is good friends with Count Yogi's apprentice. I have met the apprentice once. Every time this member sees me at the range he swears up and down that my swing and golf demeanor is spot on with CY's

hahahah, that's awesome! This is the first I've seen of him. I am a pretty easy-going, spiritual guy but maybe not to that extent. I can certainly see the similarities that member points out though, particularly in that little pitch Yogi made (55sec). The putter, not so much. This member on the other hand, putts exactly like that.

I never heard of him until a thread I read today that mentioned him. Sounds like an interesting guy, but his list of feats sound like he has the same PR people as Kim Jon Il

Here's a link to another vid of him:

Definitely an interesting character.  Would've been a great guy to golf with.  Here's a link to the feats mentioned:

He seemed to not really be caught up in the mechanical side of the swing.  It was completely mental to him.  I love how fast he sets up and hits the ball.  Incredibly beautiful, fluid swing, too.
