Got a HD camera for Christmas and finally got the opportunity to take a look at my swing and get it uploaded.

By the way, if it helps I am using a 56 degree Sand Wedge. Critique away! Thanks in advance.

Merry Christmas, glad you got a video camera.  You bring the clubhead in behind you early, then lift up, go across the line and over the top going across the ball outside to in at impact.

Grip is pretty strong, ball too far forward, loss of balance at the end....and your pajamas are getting dirty

Need to bend more in the knees ( more like sitting in a chair) and flatten that back... shoulders back!

It's actually a birdie ball so it only goes maybe to the middle of the circle with a wedge. It's the neighboors that live behind the woods in my backyard that dislike me haha. I mash balls down there all summer long.

Do you use a 10 finger grip?  Looks like your right hand is well below the left

I have no clue. I grip it the same way I do a baseball bat if that's a 10-finger grip. I'm not good with names of grips haha.

  • 7 months later...

Here's a look at my swing from footage during my round today...suprisingly, I hit the fairway both times I recorded my swing.  I've been struggling lately with my swing but today I was striking my drives really well. Any tips are much appreciated.

Two things i would say (from what I see in the vid's)

You're a little too much inside at the takeaway.  Do you slice the ball at all?

Another thing, which might contribute to the last part....your left arm needs to be straight.  You break your left arm  as you take it back and too the top.  Keep that arm straight.

If you can go frame by frame on your new camera or on a program on the computer...you will see that at impact both your arms are still a little bent too which can lead to inconsistency.  You want to extend fully at impact.

But it looks like you are hitting the ball flush!

Lately I have been slicing it or at best hitting a gentle fade.

Inconsistency...that is what I feel is keeping me from breaking into single digits for my handicap index. Every day it feels like I have a different swing. Some days I'm drawing/hooking, some days I'm crushing it down the middle, and some days I'm slicing/fading.

Would backing away from the ball a bit more get my arms fully extended upon impact?

Good lower body action, you get your legs and hips driving forward well from the top. Agree with Wallstreet on the arm/swing plane issues.

Nice free swinging.  I agree you've got some good movement in your lower body, but maybe get a little more athletic of a stance for those drives.

Well, when you are at set up you should be as far away from the ball as you can extend your arms straight.  Now that doesn't mean reaching for the ball but you shouldn't have you arms bent at set up.  It looks like your arms are pretty straight at set up, but if you pause your swing at impact its almost like you are dipping down when you hit the ball.  Your brain in turn  tells your arms to bend a bit so you don't hit the ground.

I would say that this is where some of your consistency problems lie.  It is impossible to bend your leg the same exact way everytime, which in turn makes you bend and straighten your arms different each time in order to hit the ball.  This makes for inconsistency.  If you keep that left leg straight, and extend your arms through the ball, you should see a big improvement in your shots.

They charged $750 and the event sold out almost immediately. You could better argue they should have charged MORE, not less. What happens if you charge less: ticket scalpers buy up even more of the tickets because they see value: if tickets were $250, they'd clearly have sold for $1k or more on the secondary market. That's tremendous value. Fans would end up paying the same or more, or just not being able to go. Sure, a few who happened to be online at the precise moment on a fast connection and didn't fumble with their credit cards might have gotten tickets for $250, but the secondary market and ticket brokers would have scooped up the vast majority with automated processes and bots and scripts, then re-sold them later on. This way, fans get to purchase the tickets, and the PGA is earning that revenue, not the secondary ticket brokers. Econ 101. Supply and Demand. Nope.
    • Edit - the link has no title, but basically Tiger wants $5 million for each US player to “donate to charity”   They could put the Ryder Cup on free to air tv, and charge the fans a bargain price to get in.  If you have to  give the players $60 million, that’s why the tickets are $750.
