Only thing about about bloomingdale is the greens are in horrible shape but bloomingdale otherwise is a nice course.

Glad I found this thread...I'm trying to put something together for a mid-February trip to the Tampa/Clearwater area...

And to the OP, if you're in Tampa the last week of January, don't forget to hit up Gasparilla!

Thanks, i-Guy! That course looks nice. Right now I think I am down to Cove Cay, Silverado, and Bloomingdale. Problem is, I MIGHT only be able to play once while we are there as I kind of got the "evil eye" from the wife when I mentioned a second round, LOL! She doesn't play so usually she ends up alone all day while I am out and gets bored. But, we'll see.

So, for those familiar, of these three which one should I target if I can only play one round???

We will definitely be hitting Gasparilla, it was one of the deciding factors in choosing Tampa!!

I would say your best bet would be Cove Cay, or Riverhills personally. I would say Bloomingdale is a good course if you were going to play a few rounds  to play but their greens currently just arent up to par and silverado is a bit of a drive from airport, but I would def say Silverado over Bloomingdale.

That is a great idea! It is always more enjoyable to play a course with someone more familiar!

The only way you are going to get on Riverhills is with a member unless they have chnaged...Silverado is quite far from the airport (not sure of its condition as I have not played there in a while)...and not sure why "Mrd19abhs" keeps saying Bloomingdale's greens are in rough shape???  Has he played there lately...last year Bloomingdale closed the course for 3 months to install brand new greens and they are really nice...I played there about a month ago and they were very nice...your call Rebel_Golfer...however, I will throw one more into the mix and that is "The Claw".  This is USF golf course and it is very reasonable and they also replaced their greens last year and the course is a very challenging lay out (especially from the tips)...just watch out for the gators (not kidding).

The reason I say the greens are in bad shape is cause I golf there about once every two weeks and they are in bad shape. Bloomingdale is owned by a company called Fore Golf which is same company that owns Riverhills and they just redid greens @ most of their courses. However some courses just dont keep their course up very well and with Bloomindale being a public course unfourtunalty they cant keep their green condition up.

But your recomendation for Usf is a great recomendation I think. Course can be very challenging with tight fairways on a few holes.

Also Meeman and myself are both members @ Riverhills that is why I offered suggestion that he could come play there.

That's cool...I played Bloomingdale about a month ago or so and like Isaid and they did not seem to bad to me then but if you play there that often you would know better then me...I will be quiet.

Rebel_Goler then I would play RiverHills if these guys are offering as this is a "Great Track" (I use to be a member) and I still know a few members and they say the greens are rolling really fast right now...makes Riverhills a real challenege...have fun!

We know my preference for RH but I have played Bloomingdale twice in the last 2 weeks and the greens are fine. A little slower than RH, but in good shape.

The biggest problem with Bloomingdale right now is pace of play. They no longer seem to send rangers out to speed things up. Every hack is teeing off from the blues when 3 out of each 4-some cant seem to reach the red tees on tee 1.

The 2 times I played, we tee'd off an hour late. First round took 5.5 hours, second one took 5. I am sure it is slower during the week, but weekends continue to be a nightmare there.

If you guys would like to get together and play while I am there, I'd welcome the opportunity to play a nice track with people who know it!! I will be looking to play either Saturday 1/29 or Sunday 1/30...

    • It isn't about maintaining focus 100% of the time when you are on the course. It is getting focus back for the shot at hand. Even PGA tour players will chat with their caddies or opponents about non-golf stuff, but then lock in. It is hard to try to constantly be 100% locked in for 4+ hours.  Totally normal thing to happen. You really only need a few moments of focus.  This is where a pre-shot routine helps. Maybe you need to add something that gets the focus back.  I just focus on every shot like a puzzle that needs solved. I like solving puzzle and problems. So, I try to be curious. Which then enhances focus. I think it lets me take each shot at hand. It lets me have the down time between shots. What I do is just get to the ball, and then start gathering information. Yardage, lie, wind, where is the pin at, etc.. Then I figure out what I want to do.  It's not like I can't shut off the thoughts and focus when I need to. I only need to focus for a few minutes before each shot.
