I know this thread was calling out to those in colder climates but as a Floridian I just felt the need to pipe in...

You know I always thought it would be nice to have a winter...that way I could have the "forced discipline" to work out and get in better golf shape during the off-season...OH WAIT!  Florida does not have an off-season...Dang!  LMAO!

Anyway Pros and Cons to everything as I set a goal every winter to work out and dang it if the nice weather here doesn't call me out to the golf course...I guess I will have to wait until next year...AGAIN!

2/10.  Haven't played since late October.

It's a bit surprsing, I thought I'd be jonesing a bit more but I've really been enjoying the break.  I'm sure I would love a trip somewhere warm to play a couple of rounds but it's been so cold at home lately that thoughts of golf are nowhere to be found.

It also helps that I hate practicing just for practicing's sake so I don't really think about golf unless there's the possibility of playing.  Kind of like smoking during a long flight - it's much easier (for me) to ignore the craving to smoke when I know that there's absolutely zero chance that I'll be able to have one.

This is the time that it helps to have in-laws in warmer climates.  New England winters can be brutal but when you spend Thanksgiving, New Years and usually a trip in March to a warm, golf filled area it really breaks up the winter nicely.

Overall 4/10

At the store I work at we're playing a winter championship on the simulators.

Played my preliminary round today at Pinehurst #2 and shot an 86 (lost probably 2-3 strokes on chips...man its hard) Onto the round of 16 next.

Held me off a little but made me want to get on a real course alot more...sooo..8/10 at this point.

Waiting out the 2 feet of snow that just dropped on the course....

Me too!  I just played my first round of the winter league I joined last week (next round tomorrow) and shot an 85 at Parkland.  Should have been 84 but apparently I rolled the ball just a little too much placing it for a putt and it registered a stroke.

The sim is fun but boy do I miss the feel of real grass already.

I'm always afraid of that happening. What kind of simulators do you guys have?

I feel for you guys. Here in MS, we get a week here and there where we can't play. Last week was cold all week until Saturday and then I played. Played yesterday and today too. Should have another day or two that I can play this week then back to cold temps. So we are pretty lucky I guess. But come August, you will be hearing us complain about the heat!

I'm not sure of the exact model (I'm new to golf so not very familiar) but the software and setup seems almost identical to what Golf Town runs up here.

iGuy and msdogs1976, was it really necessary to intrude on the yearly pity party of the dwellers of the frozen tundra?

Wait a minute, yeah it was LOL.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

    • Take that logic and apply it to temporary water in the general area. The general area is not supposed to be under water. You are entitled free relief to play from another part of the general area that’s not under water. You are entitled to free relief to play from another area of the bunker. Bunkers are limited in size, and the fact that you were not able to play out of the same bunker no closer to the hole was unfortunate, but how does that possibly equate to “I should be able to play out of the grass instead with no penalty?” It doesn’t make logical sense. The ACC accommodates this by allowing the drop out of the bunker for one penalty stroke instead of the usual two, to account for the difference in lie.
    • Day 1:  I had my first “real” practice today at the driving range.  I hit two buckets of balls utilizing all of my clubs minus the pitching wedge (I haven’t had a lesson on that one yet).
    • like I don't like to think I'm an amazing player as I play off around 7-8 handicap or anything but The one miss I have at the minute is with my strike and its getting really frustrating because I don't see what's causing it please don't say basic stuff like I don't weight shift etc because it wont help here are some videos form certain angles (these aren't that fat in the video maybe slightly chunked but its more the fact that the chunk happens 1 in every 4 iron shots so I'm never consistent) https://imgur.com/epaeE4D https://imgur.com/CKeV0Nm https://imgur.com/lJkliwd https://imgur.com/a/1Z7VwK9
    • You’ve yet to propose anything else. And yet it was, and the rules tell you how to deal with it. Your question has been answered. The Committee can declare them GUR. I disagree with your assessment of common sense. 😀 And yet they didn’t really change this one. Looks like this is about wrapped up? “That Rule is So Unfair!” A Rules Geek’s Generalized Guide to Hot Takes and Overreactions | Rules Geeks I apologize for the length of this post. If I had more time I’d have written a shorter one. – Erik J...
    • When you are penalized for hitting into the sand trap the penalty is having to hit it out of the sand, not out of three inches of water. A sand trap is not the same as a water hazard. A sand trap is not supposed to be under water. It is a unique condition caused  by weather and poor drainage. Most local leagues like ours allow the free drop in this type of situation, as long as there is no area in the bunker to legally drop. This is what I’m talking about, sometimes the official rules of golf don’t align with common sense. That’s why they are finally starting to change them. For example, when wind blows your ball off the green. That was a stupid rule. People being able to call the tv network to say they saw a players ball move. That was a stupid rule. I’m just saying, these are rules made up a long time ago, and it’s time to modernize them.
