So, the weather here in Jerz is horrendous. It's awful today, as it has been basically every day since December 1st. We got smashed with 30+ inches of snow on December 26th for example.

Anyways, my buddies and I just booked a flight (about 20 minutes ago) for Boca Raton. Now, I'm not Jewish, but I am considered honorary Jewish, which is an unofficial but highly respectable title amongst good friends. I'm excited to see Boca Raton, as I have never been.

My good friend is lucky enough to have a family that owns a condo and a car down there, so I'm going to save money on hotel fees and cab fare/car rental. Very helpful. We're only going for the weekend, meaning it's gonna be too short of a trip, but whatever, I'm going to get to escape the evil clutches of New Jersey for a little while. I'm leaving in early February. Fingers crossed we get decent weather.

So excited. I'm getting out of Shawshank!!!

The trip was entirely too short. We arrived at my friend's place at around midnight on Thursday and played golf on Friday and Saturday. It was between 65-70 degrees on both days, so it was very relaxing and enjoyable to be able to tee it up again, and I consider us pretty lucky to have avoided any rain or lightning. Our days pretty much consisted of breakfast, golf, lunch, golf, relax at the apartment, dinner, bar, in bed by 1am, up by 8am. Repeat. I got back yesterday afternoon.

It feels weird for me to type this, but this was my first 18 holes of golf since March 2009. I can't even believe it's been that long (I've had injuries, but when I'm healthy, I tend to stick to a local par-3 course/driving range). I took no mulligans during the rounds, nor was I able to hit the range before hand (poor time management in the morning), and I posted 103-101 over two rounds over two different courses. I lost all my shots around the greens because I just had absolutely no touch coupled with poor technique. My ballstriking however was really good (by my standards). For example, I hit the 5-wood of my life on a short par-4 which left me only a 40 yard pitch into an easy green. I ended up carding a triple bogey 7 after chunking four straight pitch shots in a row. Story of the weekend. I also got no better than a triple bogey on every hole where I hit into a greenside bunker.

In truth however, I'm really excited for this season. My full swing is really coming along. If I had just slightly below average touch around the greens, I could broken 85 without much effort. In the end though, I'm extremely thankful to have had the opportunity to take this short vacation. I understand how fortunate I am to be able to do something like this given all the struggles that go on around the world.

Oh, and one last thing. On Day 2, I opened with quad, quad, triple, quad. I was pulling everything OB. But, thanks to Erik's teachings and Stack and Tilt, I knew that I was a) coming over the top because b) I was swinging too much with my arms and not pushing my hips forward enough. I made the adjustment and starting hitting fairways again after only just those opening four holes.

I feel empowered now. My friends were all so impressed with my improvements with the full swing, even though I hadn't hit a golf ball since November. On a few holes, I outdrove everyone with just my 5-wood, which I used 90% of the time off the tee for the vacation. It helped that they mishit their tee shots a little bit, but it was still pretty cool.
