Tinkering with my putter....

Sounds kind of provocative... It must be the result of being snowbound in Upstate NY.

Here is what I am considering....

I currently use a 48 inch putter with a blade head similar to old style Ping Anser.

I would like to add a bit of weight to it... preferably perimeter weighting.

I am considering add "nickels" (yep, the 5cent kind) to the backside of the putter.

Probably 2 or 3 each at the toe and heel.

Will I be breaking an rules by modifying the putter ? (Would not change during round.)

Once I get the weighting I wanted the coins would be glued permanently...

Would I be better off laying the coins flat and stacking them?

A second option would be to stand the coins upright one behind the other.

Any suggestions??? I'm guessing trial and error will work best...

But I am worried about the legality of altering the putter?

Wouldn't want a TV viewer turning me in...

Never been a big fan of lead tape.

The pieces I have used before on woods eventually comes loose.

Plus I really want to add more weight.

And part of the "fun" is the tinkering aspect... tape would be boring.

Ex: Last year I cut the putter down from 50" to 48"...

Sadly I think I putted better at 50"... oh, well.

My poor blade putter head looks so plain jane next to the hovercrafts others are using...

Interesting... nickels huh?   Lead tape comes off on drivers becuase of the repeated impact at high speeds with a ball... not so with the putter.  The only way the tape would come off your putter would be if your playing partner held onto the tape tightly while you threw the putter in a lake.

That said, adding nickels PERMANENTLY shouuld keep the club legal.  But be careful how you do it.  Epoxy?    Might I suggest taping some on there first, and hitting a few balls with it?  You might love the "tinkering" aspect, but if you jack up the swingweight or alter the toe flow you might be sorry you did.

Make sure you're going to be satisfied with how it looks before you make it permanent!! If it looks tacky, I wouldn't do it
