I don't know what it is about those indoor hitting bays, but I just can't hit driver inside them.  Anyone else have this experience?  6-iron, 185 carry down the middle.  3-wood 245 yard carry down the middle.  Driver, 201 yard carry.  It makes it tough to find a good driver.....  In the past, I would have suspected the equipment.  Now that I'm a better ball striker, I'm guessing it's the inter-cranial equipment that's got the problem.

[ Equipment ]
R11 9° (Lowered to 8.5°) UST Proforce VTS 7x tipped 1" | 906F2 15° and 18° | 585H 21° | Mizuno MP-67 +1 length TT DG X100 | Vokey 52° Oil Can, Cleveland CG10 2-dot 56° and 60° | TM Rossa Corza Ghost 35.5" | Srixon Z Star XV | Size 14 Footjoy Green Joys | Tour Striker Pro 5, 7, 56 | Swingwing

Its the launch monitor, probably...  Best thing to do is go to the driving range and hit your driver, see if it is your swing, if not then its the launch monitor..

Get this, Launch Monitor at golf galaxy. My dad is trying out new drivers, the monitor gets close to his distance. I get up there, i know i am a 285-300 guy. I hit at least 10 shots over 340 on the launch monitor. Its not the driver, i use the Ping G15, i was hitting the K15.. Not much difference there.

Basically the launch monitor is using a normal distribution equation, were my dad is average, i am at an extreme. I noticed before hand the launch monitor had a max driving range distance of 270. So i guess anything over that just throws the equation used to calculate distance out the window.

Same franchise in were i live at, has me about 10-15 under my normal. So those launch monitors are highly variable.

Had some questions about these indoor launch monitors. I know the Golfsmith Vector is juiced up, but there is an About Golf simulator in my area that seems to be good with the irons, but off on the driver and fairway. Doesn't seem to make any sense, but the store owner confirmed it. Anyone else ever run into this problem?

Depends on the machine and the algorithms it uses. Basically the machine takes in as much info was it can, usually by high speed camera measuring rotation, launch angle, and speed. Then it plugs it into an equation and spits out the value as distance. The problem is that if these equations have convergence errors, that is at the extremes things get wacky. So if you go to one that is good for the average golfer you might be well, but if your a bomber, it will be all messed up. Some places are better than others.

Think of it this way, if you remember the exponential function in highschool, how it goes towards infinity very fast, similar situation.. If you get a value near the ends it just goes to shit.

I've had difficulties with launch monitors as well. I normally hit my driver about 295 yards (carry + roll). I went to the Accra fitting headquarters to get my iron lie angles checked out, and played around with drivers on their simulator. Their simulator was right on, I was hitting it my average distances with my driver. But later in the season I cracked the face on my driver, so I went to GolfTown to look at potential drivers. I grabbed a stock Titleist 909D2 with a stiff Voodoo, and hit a couple balls on their simulator. It said I hit the 909 about 235 yards. I know the 909 wasn't the perfect fit for me, but it couldn't have been so bad that I lost 60 yards. It's definitely the quality of the simulator and launch monitor that is the reason for the weird distances. When I get fit for my Titleist 910 in the spring, I'm definitely going to a certified Titleist fitting centre. GolfTown is a joke for fitting.
