Hey everybody, I'm having problems with my driver and I don't know where to start.  If I was to hit 10 drives, 5 would go straight, 2 would be slice, 2 would hook, and I might have one pop up.  Do you guys possibly have any tips or recommendations?

I'd say see what you're doing on those 5 drives  that go straight, and try to mimic what you did. Also, how do you set up the ball? Are you consistent in your stance? Setting up too close? Too far? There are so many things to tackle!!

I'd recommend taking out a camera and videotaping a few of your swings, and post it here, there are some really good guys who can analyze your swing and give you tips.

If you are loosing your balance backwards you just figured it out....most people are not in balance, so if you cant stand up at you finish and hold your balance with no weight on your right foot, then thats what you should work on. Just like if you were playing any sport, if your throwing a basketball and falling backwards..the ball could go anywhere, left, right, high. low. Same with golf. What you need to look at is why your doing that? Equipment is made way to strong for the average player, so for most people to hit a 10 degree lofted driver or less, they have to add loft. They do this by hanging back and lifting the ball. The problem is you are taking out all your natural ability, this is why people get stuck into certain swings. You should go get your equipment evaluated by a teacher/fitter dynamically ( not statically). Unless you have a swing speed comparable to the tour players...you shouldn't be playing the same loft as them.....to bad this is the equipment most people "fit" into by big manufacturers.

Something to help with your balance is to swing a club 50 to 100 times a night in balance hitting and holding your finish position.  If you start slowly and feel your weight transfer correctly throughout your swing you can then work up to swinging in real time.  I started to do this and it made a difference.

good advice! Also do it with your eyes shut...you can even go out on the range at practice hitting with your eyes shut...then the only thing you can trust is your balance.

    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
