So I've been pondering piecing together a little sunday bag that I can leave in the car all the time for those spur of the moment range sessions or a quick 9 and to loan out, etc.

What I'd like to do is pick 5 unique clubs that could get around a course.

Here's my rough idea:

4 or 5 wood

I like the idea of one of those mizuno fli-hi forged hybrids or something similar

7 iron

SW

Putter

My vision is to find some rare/unique clubs to fill the slots and give me something to dig through ebay to find.

What are some of your favorite individual clubs that you would consider if you were geeking out on a minimalist sunday bag? Brands absolutely do not matter, just try to pick some aesthetically pleasing, quirky or strange clubs that might be fun to play with.

For distance off the tee : Take a Driver ...... you need to be in the range for a 2nd shot to the green.

From there I would suggest a 4H or 5i depending of what you like for mid distances.

For 100 yds in, chipping, pitching etc 7i, 9i, SW and a Putter.

OK that is 6 ...... but I think 6 is just a liitle better if you still want a decent game (or let's say 5 + Putter).

But it also depends on the course you normally play.

Although most of us carry 13 or 14 clubs, I think we all have a few favourites that get most of the use at the courses we play and I am sure we all have some clubs in the bag that are used very sparsly.....

Cal Razr Hawk 10.5 | TM Superfast 3W | Adams Idea Pro Black 20 | MP-68 3-PW | TW9 50/06 + 58/12 | Ram Zebra Putter

I guess a driver would be nice...

I was hoping for some specific clubs, as in what is a favorite 4H you might have played, or a random boutique iron I could pick up on ebay that has a cool history, etc.

I could build the bag right now out of clubs I already have, but I don't have any spare hybrids and the extra iron sets I have I'm not interested in using for this purpose, and my R9 would not be a club I would like to leave in the trunk all the time.

Thread resurrection!

I too had been pondering a project like this and am calling it my junkyard dog set.

I am going with:

Lynx Boom Boom 11*

Taylor Raylor Tour preferred  16*

Getting some forged iron heads bent approximately 26, 34, and 42

I have some heads but don't know if they will work out.  Probably a 4 iron shaft in the 26, 6 iron shaft in the 34, and 8 iron shaft in the 42.

I will also find a wedge or use one I have; something that will work for chipping and sand.

Don

In the bag:

Driver: PING 410 Plus 9 degrees, Alta CB55 S  Fairway: Callaway Rogue 3W PX Even Flow Blue 6.0; Hybrid: Titleist 818H1 21* PX Even Flow Blue 6.0;  Irons: Titleist 718 AP1 5-W2(53*) Shafts- TT AMT Red S300 ; Wedges Vokey SM8 56-10D Putter: Scotty Cameron 2016 Newport 2.5  Ball: Titleist AVX or 2021 ProV1

A friend and I ocassionally play a "4 Club Challenge". For me the key is getting "double duty" out of some clubs. I would like a driver but need a fairway wood. So the 3 Wood is my double-duty club. You must consider which clubs you have extra confidence in. And club selection is in part determined by the course you'll play. Finally the tee box you use will also dictate club selection.

My 5 Club Fun Bag would be:

3 Wood

6 Iron

9 Iron

SW

Putter

Here is the set up:

Lynx Boom Boom 11* 43" DG S300

Taylor Raylor  16* DG S300

Ram Golden Ram 5 iron bent to 26* TT utility S steel shaft 38"

Hogan Director 9 iron bent to 34* TT utility S steel shaft 37"

Wilson Staff fg-17 9 iron bent to 42" TT utility S steel shaft 36"

The shafts say S but are installed in such a way that they play between S and R

Right now I am using some no name copper wedge I have had for years and a Ping Zing 2

Went to the range yesterday and I think it is just right-but hard to tell with range balls.  Looking forward to playing 9 later this week. I put them all in an old nylon Dunlop bag and the whole set up weighs nothing.

This is what I'm talking about! I want to get that Ping sunday bag and do something similar to this. Thanks for the good post.

If I was picking out of my collection:

1) Wilson Staff FYbrid 19.5* Proforce V2 stiff

2) Mizuno MX-200 6 iron (29*) Dynalite Gold XP S300

3) MacGregor MT Pro-M 9 iron (43*) Dynamic Gold S300

4) MacGregor MT Pro DW 58/10* Dynamic Gold wedgeflex

5) Whatever putter you like-I'd probably go with my Srixon P-514

I actually played a couple round with 4 clubs last summer-same list as above, just 7 iron instead of 6 iron, 50* or 52* GW instead of 9 iron and LW.

Glad you like it.  I had been toying with this idea and your original post inspired me to action.

Ok, this started out as an experiment based on a post/challenge by xxsoultonesxx.  It has become my routine gaming set. The next addition may be a hybrid around 19-22 to cover the gap between the 16* Raylor and the 5 iron. I have never owned a hybrid. Before or after that, I may upgrade the wedge--having trouble with short game and it must be the club-can't be me right? (ha!). The wedge will be a replacement, not an addition. So I may wind up with 7 or 8 clubs that I use more often than not, and maybe even walk more often than not.

The point of this post is that I have learned you don't need 14 clubs to have an enjoyable round and that walking may be good for your golf.

Success! I plan on playing a few rounds with my leaned out set:

Adams super hybrid 19*

Ping Eye 2 5 Iron

Ping eye 2 8 iron

Nike SV tour 56*

Yes! Tracy 2 putter
