My sister moved to Maui about a year ago and I'm finally going to make it out there to visit.  Since I won't have the expense of a hotel while I am out there, hopefully I'll be able to play a decent amount of golf.

An instructor I've worked with has a hookup with the director of golf at Kapalua, so I plan to play both courses there if the price is right.  If I can't get a great deal, I will still probably try to get on at the Plantation course.  Other than that I don't know anything about Hawaii golf.  Can anyone make any recommendations as to what courses to play?  I'd like to keep it around $100 per round, but will splurge for amazing courses.  I will be there for 8 days and would like to play at least 4-5 rounds.

Any advice is welcome!

I played  King Kamehameha which was around $100 if I remember correctly.  We went in May and had the course to ourselves--very nice.

If you find yourself on Kauai the 27 hole Makai course at Princeville is AMAZING! its about $150(?). Its a beautiful course and you can play all day and the price includes cart w/GPS, driving range, free bottled water, the works. They even clean your clubs and give you a cool damp towel after your round. Best golf experience ive ever had.

The wife and I really enjoyed playing Wailea Emerald last May - we too had the course to ourselves.  I think twilight fee was around $125 (need to shop around for best deals).

Agree 100%! After Maui we were in Kauai and had a condo for a week and a half on the 8th fairway of Makena. What a blast. But if you're in Princeville you should really try to play the Prince course, which is even more amazing.

And yeah, in addition to the fabulous weather and scenery, another great thing about golf in Maui/Hawaii in general is the service - friendly staff, the cold towels, etc. At least that was my experience at the 3 courses I've been to (Wailea, Makea, Prince).

I just played at olomana golf course in waimanalo, hawaii and payed $48 for the cart and during peak hours. $48 was local rate. I just walked into the pro shop with my cousin and asked for 2 to play and she never asked if we were local or visitors. I later found out the price is 120 to play for visitor. we later play at another golf course ( forgot the name now) and same thing happened to us. they never asked if we were local or not. just payed and we were off.

just walk into the pro shop and ask to play. if you say you are visiting, then you will pay the price.

golf is a lot like life. the more you enjoy it, the better off you are. a3_biggrin.gif
