Hi all. I switched to stack and tilt in July 2009. Recently lost 50 lbs which has got my swing all out of sorts. I can see I'm releasing early and have been working on that with a Pure Ball Striker. Could really use some feedback from the S&T; gurus. Thanks!

Hi John ( wish I could be practicing outside )

There is some flipping going on there like you said, but the other thing I noticed is that your head moves forward on the backswing about 4 or 5 inches, then it is getting pulled up when your shoulders turn. Shortening your swing may help a little with this.

I struggled with this too when I started putting more weight on my front foot, but keeping it steady has helped a lot with ball striking.

It was only about 42° F out today with a 15mph wind so it was a bit cold to practice. :)  After I hit a view balls and got the video done I packed it in cause I was freezing my rear off.

I've been trying to shorten my swing but am really lost as to HOW to do this. I make lots of practice swings in the mirror and it looks shorter but when I start hitting balls for real I fall back into my old habits even though it still "feels" short.

Thanks for the input - I'll see if I can figure out how to keep my head from moving all over the place.

I do the same thing, I can make myself do it when I practice, but when it comes to playing or once I lose my concentration, I will bring in my old habits...it is really just about ingraining it, or by doing 'reps' as Tiger would say.

The backswing isn't necessarily too long, but I noticed that you really come outside to in on the downswing.  You shift too much weight in the beginning of your downswing, so your arms flail out a little bit on the downswing.  If you stop the top video around 3 seconds when your at the top of the swing, you look good.  The shaft points towards the target, the left hand is flat, and the body has comfortably turned.  If you stop it at 4 seconds at the beginning of the downswing, already you have shifted your weight forward so much your hands moved with it, way out on a outside in path.  Don't shift your weight so early in the swing, all you need is a slight hip turn and let your hands catch up with your body.  Almost try intentionally to go inside out a little bit to get your body used to the feeling, then fine tune the swing path.

Thanks for the feedback Phillyk. Yeah, I was struggling a bit today with my old nemesis, the out to in path. What's funny is I've been hitting the ball much better the last few days but when I decided to video myself today all my bad habits came back. It's supposed to be mid 50's tomorrow so I'm going to try and get some practice in and maybe take some more video.

  • 1 year later...

I've been Playing Golf for: 15 years, last 3 years using Stack & Tilt framework. In the last 2 years have gone from high 90's shooter to low-mid 80's shooter.

My current handicap index or average score is: about 10

My typical ball flight is: push draw, tend to be a high ball hitter

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Tend to pull a bit to the left, starting the ball at or a bit left of target and then overdrawing. I think part of this is caused from "hitting from the top" and also seem to over-rotate my hands closing the face to the left.

Looking at these videos I'm sure there are numerous flaws. Really looking for advice on the top 2 flaws you see and which one you would attack first. I've been working on my setup and getting my arms a little farther from my body at setup. I've been hitting it on the heel a lot lately and this seems to have fixed the issue. FYI I've lost about 80 lbs in the last year so I'm struggling with some basic setup/balance issues as my body has changed so much.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Get your arms down faster. Shorten up the backswing a little bit too.

Swing to A3 (feel like it), then get your arms down fast. You'll probably want to feel it by getting your left arm across your chest as your hips continue to slide forward a little too.

Thanks Erik. Totally forgot about that old post. Thanks for combining for me.

I've been working on getting my arms down faster the last few days. What a difference! When I do it right I'm hitting the ball 20+ yards farther. The feeling I'm working with right now is feeling like I'm pulling the butt of the club into the back of the ball with my left arm and trying to pull my left elbow to my left side. Still a lot of work to do but feel like I'm on the right track.

Does anyone have any drills to get my arms moving faster. Took some video the other day and I'm back to my old habits. Can't seem to get my arms down and moving faster. Any help is very much appreciated.

    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
    • I don't think you can snag lpga.golf without the actual LPGA having a reasonable claim to it. You can find a ton of articles of things like this, but basically: 5 Domain Name Battles of the Early Web At the dawn of the world wide web, early adopters were scooping up domain names like crazy. Which led to quite a few battles over everything from MTV.com You could buy it, though, and hope the LPGA will give you a thousand bucks for it, or tickets to an event, or something like that. It'd certainly be cheaper than suing you to get it back, even though they'd likely win. As for whether women and golfers can learn that ".golf" is a valid domain, I think that's up to you knowing your audience. My daughter has natalie.golf and I have erik.golf.
