Well, my goal is to be a single digit handicapper by the end of this golf season. So I basically have 5ish months to drop 2 off my index.

I am going to update this thread as much as possible ( hopefully each day ) as I embark on this goal.

Hopefully it will be interesting for some and help others with similar goals.

I am at the range tonight so will update later on!

My second golf-life goal is to get to scratch or at least to well below 5.0 so I can enter National tournaments ....... Restarted from hc. 45 last spring .... now at hc. 5.8 but playing around 10 bc. of humid and cold conditions at the moment.

Well have been to the range a couple times the last few days, struggling and hitting push fades. I can still hit draws without any issues, but can not find the sweet spot between the fade and draws..I either hit too much of a fade or too large of a draw.

I know I am coming over the top, but trying to fix it is the issue, and I know what I should be doing it, just need to do it!

Looking forward to my lesson - hopefully he can help me with my issues.

Played some indoor golf on a simulator yesterday and played Doral. Shot an 87 from the white tees, surprisingly it picked up my push fades pretty well. Did not pick up my low ball flight with my driver so much though.

Anyway, more range time this week, going to try a few tips some guys here gave me to fix my slight over the top move.

Keep your left arm straight on the backswing as long as possible, it will feel like a backswing along the outside, it will also feel steeper than you are used to, now you have created room for coming from the inside at the downswing........ Move forward, shift weight, but stay behind the ball till impact and follow trough.

Well, the range session tonight was amazing. Thanks to fellow TST members I made huge progress and had much better ball flight

I really focused on keeping my arms closer to my body and swinging from the inside out on my downswing.

This helped me a lot with pitches around 40-ish yards. I often pulled them around 4 or so yards left, but now am hitting them much straighter.

Still need more work, but making good progress. My driver also needs work, but I want to go to a launch monitor and check my numbers to make sure it is right for me. I hit the standard R11 this weekend with stiff shaft and didn't have low ball flight issues, so I may need a new shaft for my Nike.

There is a golf show in Calgary this weekend so am looking forward to that. There are some booths form Taylormade, Ping, Callaway, Adams and Wilson Staff, so it will be a great time to check my numbers on my driver as well as trying out the Ci9 irons from Wilson

Practicing putting in the lounge right now......

Will update tomorrow.

what kinda shaft do you have in your driver? One thing to consider, when you pull the ball, the flight will often be alot lower than desired.

I thought that might be what it was, but I can switch back to my old Nickent and get decent ball flight ( the face is dead-ish on the Nickent though, hence the new driver ) ....It is the standard Nike shaft. It is a Aldila Voodoo SVR6

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I did buy a 909D2, but after two sessions at the range the head started rattling inside....anyway, took it back and got myself an Adams Speedline F10 ( in my sig )...LOVE IT

Shaft is 46.125 long, compared to my Nike which was 45, but it is A LOT more forgiving and I am hitting it A LOT straighter and higher.. Sound is better, contact feels nicer....much nicer at address as well.

So my driving was great today, and I also had a revelation....I have had a slight fade on my irons now for a while and have been trying to get rid of it by getting a flatter swing and changing my grip...I've been fighting it so badly I lost focus on swinging smooth and just making good contact, which led to slightly chunky shots as well as thin shots....today I decided the fade is going to be my stock shot...I can still draw the ball, but my fade is going to be mine. I worked on figuring out how much my shots fade and will continue to get used to aiming slightly left ( maybe 4 yards ) and just go with it

I had a guy next to me tonight who was grabbing the same club as me EVERY TIME... a younger guy who was swinging out of his boots with his driver and 3 wood trying to show me up or something....it was fucking annoying to be honest and distracting because I could see hm watching me hit then waiting for me to watch him....( which I never did )..I then spent around 15 minutes just with my GW hitting 40-100 yard shots...and he got bored after 10 minutes and switched clubs back to the driver

Anyway, all in all a good session with my clubs....LOVE the new driver...seriously confident I will be breaking 80 several times this season

Been great weather in Calgary the last week, lots of snow has melted and can see lots of grass!....but 20cm of snow forecast for Saturday....boo.
