Greetings my fellow golfers. I've been playing with blades for the last few years and I was thinking of an upgrade. I was wondering if any of you have demoed any cavity back irons and which ones you would recommend for a low handicap player. Thanks for the input.

Driver: Taylormade R7 Superquad TP 8.5 (Fujikura Motore F1 75 X-Stiff)
3-Wood: Cleveland Tour Head 13 (Matrix Ozik Code-8 X-Stiff)
Irons: Titleist 690 MB 3 and 4 iron (Dynamic X-100) 5 - PW (Dynamic Tour X7)
Wedges: Titleist Spin Milled 55 and 59 Degree
Putter: Titleist Studio Stainless 1st Gen.

I kind of did the same thing. But this will be my first summer with them so I really have no report as of yet. I went from a set of Mizuno blades to a set of combo irons. Specifically the Bridgestone J36 Combos. PW and 9 are a true blade - 8, 7, 6 are CB - 5 and 4 are more of a muscle back. Hitting some balls on the range last fall and over the winter I really love the feel of these clubs and still have the ability to work them if needed/wanted.

Well, don't make the mistake of getting ones with large offset - it will introduce all sorts of problems into your game.

Mizuno's MP-53s are nice.  Titleist's AP2s are fantastic, practically a game improvement iron.

If I were getting new irons, I'd go with something in the Nike Victory Red line.  This year's offering includes the Pro Combo, which is MBs for 8-P, then variations of cavity for the middle and long irons.

I agree with Shindig, the Pro Combo might be a great fit for what you are looking for, something to look into. Just to add a few more: AP2's, R9 TP's.

Thanks for the input. I'm looking into a couple different sets at the moment. I just hit the new Taylormade MB and CM's and I wasn't too impressed. I will definitely be back with an update.

      _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.

      Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.

      I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.

      I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
