Some days I wonder what it is I'm missing about ball striking.  Referencing this article at thegolfchannel.com

http://www.thegolfchannel.com/tour-insider/the-focus-on-ball-flight-42324/

makes me feel like this is one of those days.  Tell me where I'm wrong here.  If your natural swing plane and release produce a straight shot, can't you just make your natural swing and grip the club open or closed to draw or fade it?  I don't change anything but the clubface at address when I "work" the ball left or right....and that's the easier part of the game to me.  If I want to hit it high or low, I might move the ball a touch forward or back, but the swing is identical.  Now, super-high or super low requires that I change my sequencing some.  Is that what's going on here?  What is it here that would make tour players monkey with their swings to produce ball flight variations...besides trying to win the masters?

That's a great way to shape your shots.  So long as you have dialed in the correct amount of opening or closing, along with where to aim, you should have it.

That's exactly the way Manuel De La Torre teaches shot shaping. Keep your swing exactly the same and just open or close your face to the degree you wish to curve the ball. ALSO note that the clubface has MORE influence in initial ball direction...so, don't aim at the tree and swing around it or you'll catch a ball in the teeth! You have to aim around the tree and then swing even further around the tree...if that makes any sense at all...
