Hi All

Having a problem with my game that is driving me crazy.  My Irons shots are hooking.  ( right handed golfer).  The ball is starting straight with good ball flight and then tailing off and missing target 20 odd yards left.  Divot is after the ball and the strike feels great. I have been told that my club face is closed at setup which is causing the hook.  The problem is that when i setup to me  it it looks ok.  It looks on target.  Is this a mental block or is there a way for me to make sure the club face is setup to target?

Thank in advance.

If the ball is starting at the target, your club face is pointing at the target ( if your club face was closed, the ball would start left of the target..ie. the direction of the clubface ), but your swing path is too far in-out....if you can work on your swing plane ( maybe too flat ) it will help

Can you upload a video of your swing?

Hello Kennem

Oh deary deary me. Common problem, but easy peasy to fixers

Kieran has a good point, but I find that if you have a higher handicap, then the problem with a hook like that is often related not with the swingpath, but instead with the lie angle of your club. (Because of lie angle is not correct it acts the same as an open or closed cubfaced).

So i will say that its probably - 1) Your club lie angle is not steep enough, coupled with 2) an open clubface (NOT CLOSED) - that is why your ball go straight (because the lie angle and open clubface combine to give a square clubface), but then the spins is applied and you hook it like that.

OK. NOT TOO WORRY. This is going to fix your hook. Try this a few times and Im sure it will help you.

Take your normal setup, and just step 1 or 2 inches closer to the ball. And lift your back up a bit so that the sole is flat on the ground.

You might feel that this will promote even a bigger hook, but fear not, it will fixers your hookers.

i have been doing alot of work a on my posture and i could be over doing the bend in my hips, straight spine and reaching for the ball a little.

Will give your suggestion a go over the next ouple of days.
