Hi,

Flexibility has been a major issue for me and something I continue to work on.

One thing that I currently unable to do is turn my hips with a normal address position. In other words, in order for my hips to be turned towards the target, I must flare my left foot out at near or around 90 degrees. Even when attempting to position myself at impact, I must turn my left foot significantly. This also allows me to release and avoid the "chicken wings".

My question is how bad is this and am I missing something. No matter what I do, I can not stack on my left foot and turn my body as shown in the following picture. I can only do this with a near 90 degree left foot turn.

If it works for you then go with it. Getting your hips to turn properly is much more important than the angle your left foot is at. But you must get your weight onto your lead foot throughout your swing. Its a key to getting your hands forward and hitting down on the ball.

I'm not flexible either. ( Dorthy....quick...the oil can!)

Here's two tips: At initial address try to set up with your toes pointing straight. Then not moving your heels, spread your feet  to what works for you.

Also, if you look at golf footage from the 60's-70's  a lot of  players  allowed their left heel to lift off the ground at takeaway. In some cases it came way off the ground. Some really good woman golfers used to make ball contact standing on their toes to make up for less flexibility.

Then came Gyms, Yoga, Pilate's.........

PS:  Your lower body may be in "outward rotation" in which case there is not any way to stretch or exercise your way out of it.

Outward Rotation = Duck Feet

Inward Rotation = Pigeon Toed (a real problem)

Someday I will have to write something on this. Nobody talks about it anymore. It really does affect the golf game.
