I play out of B.C. Canada, In the summer it can get as hot a 100 and in the winter as cold as minus 10..

Its about plus 0-4 out right now, courses arent playable untill about 10 am because of frost.. being the die hards we are, i went to the course today and there was actually a wait on each hole. Sure your fingers are numb, shafts and club heads get cold and more stiff then usual, and golf balls drop from the sky like rocks.

In the spring and summer i carry my driver 250, with a good strike in this weather I found my longest drives going about 220, i hit a 4 iron from 165 yards, which normally goes about 205 for me. Wish i was in Florida right now =(

Distance is definitely off, but what gets me most, is the rock solid concrete feeling greens! I hit a beauty from 165yds the other day, right on the front of the green, it bounced about 20ft high and flew over the whole thing! It's taking some getting used to, to not try and hit the greens. Have to hit short, and then baby it on, or there's no chance for the ball to stay up.

Hitting the fairways are the same way. Rock solid frozen ground, and NO divots at all. Irons just bounce. Made for an awesome tee shot though. The ball landed off the tee at the 250 yd mark, and then bounced and rolled out another 60yds!

But hey, I still love it. Played Christmas Eve, New Years Eve and will get out there today as well. Temps have been in the 20's-low 30's, and are right now, 29 degrees, and not expected to get any higher today. as long as the winds stay away, it'll be a good round!

I played yesterday with the frozen greens and fairways, but we play a little different in these conditions. If you hit the green (the ball wont stay on) you can pick up your ball and add two. If you chip on within 6ft you can pick up and add one stroke.

May not be legal golf but with the shorter shots because of cold you still get to play and sometimes feel good about your round too

Its still raining here so drives hit and plug or bounce 5 yards forward, but I can relate to the golf balls bouncing 20 feet in the air, hitting 9 iron in to a 175 yard hole because the fairways are like cement. I went out in those conditions once and i wont be doing it again.

Did anyone catch the adt skills? I cant remember where it was played but you can tell their distances were slightly less than normal.. The long drive was won by a 290 yard shot by Jason Gore, Paula Creamers longest drive went 222 yards (she averages 255 on the LPGA tour), and all the long hitters were using a 6 iron from 175 yards.

They may never play in weather like we do, but i wonder how far Jason Gore or Trever Immelman would hit a drive in +3 degree weather and soaking wet fairways?

Well, I played today. Almost wish I hadn't but heck, need to start the new year off right! It was miserable out there. Temp was ~29f, but 6-10mph wind chill dropped it severely. To make matters MUCH worse, I had no gloves today, and by the 3rd hole I could no longer feel the clubs. By the time we finished 9 holes, fingertips felt like they were cracking with every swing, hands were bright red and I couldn't make a fist. Needless to say, I shot my worst round in over 6 months!
So, I've officially had my worst round of the year! It can only go up from here! (I hope!!)

Its about high 20s, low 30s in Melbourne, Australia. Haven't had substantial rain in quite a while but it means a lot of par fours are driveable Last week I drove a 280m hole with my 3W! It took one bounce and rolled up to the fringe about 5 metres from the hole One of my friends also drove a 289m par 4 with his 3i

Up here in the NW everything is saturated so balls are plugging in the fairway and greens are horribly lumpy. Footprints freeze into the greens at night. Putting is a joke and you get a spray of mud in the face if you take a divot.

That didn't stop me from firing a smooth 92 on Sunday... lol.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
