I have always been curious about this. Some people say you should aim 4 inches ahead like on irons and some say you want to hit it on the upswing.

Im asking this because my driver is VERY inconsistent. It seems like everyday im changing up my grip in order to hit it straight

If you play the ball on your left heel, you will hit the ball on an upswing (yes hit the ball on the upswing).  As far as aiming goes...I aim for the ball; perhaps I'm misunderstanding you.

Good question though!

don't worry about hitting the ball, that's what the club is for. just make a swing with your momentum going towards your target.

I found putting the ball more towards the middle of my stance helps me out...  I use to put the ball just inside my left foot but found I sliced the ball more, once I put the ball more toward the middle it has really helped.

I tee it up at center as well...My setup (and ball flight) is now much more consistent. I previously had 10-15 yard fade/slice. I now have a straight/5 yard fade.

I do however have a lower trajectory now.

This is going to sound completely contrary to what you are hearing on every other post I'm sure.  If you are having side-spin problems with the driver, you'd be better off hitting it level or slightly descending (0* approach angle to around -2*, but anything else is too much backspin).  It will add a little bit of backspin which will tend to counteract side-spin.  You could also try a stiffer shaft which will tighten up the dispersion and reduce side-spin.  As far as ball position, place yourself at impact.  Tee the ball up so it hits right above the center of the face.  Then make a swing to get back to that position.

If you are going to ignore this advice, drop your right shoulder at address and play the ball inside your left heel.  That will get the club swinging up.

    • Day 141 12-31 Reconnecting arm and club face work. Making sure left wrist is arched only on the downswing. Not doing full swings, im pausing at the top and will do a few rehearsals.  Hit a few real balls  after, and had some curve way left.
    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn.
