To flat or not to flat

Hi, long story short, i cannot try out any custom fitted clubs before buying them

I currently have 2 deg flat irons becuase ive had them since i was alot shorter.

Im thinking of upgrading to X24's

My measurments are,

5 10" tall

28" from ground to fingertip

32" from ground to inside (hinge point) cup of wrist

Do i need custom fits?

Can you not tell your pro store you're looking at new irons but want them to take a quick lie-board test for you to know whether you'll need them custom fitted?

When I bought my irons a week or two ago they did a free quick lie board test to make sure I didn't need a custom fit (and a grip test and a swing speed test)

Probably better that than assuming they'll be fine based on measurements and then finding out you dig the heel in when swinging...

just so you know the x24 cant be changed or ordered as a custome set

The golf industry does not have a standard for "average" lie angle for a set of clubs. So, you need to get checked out on each company's irons to see what lie angle you need.

Also, changes to the swing and stance can alter what lie angle you need. For much of my life, I had a very upright swing with a bit or a "crouch" stance. I had irons with lie 2* flat from 1994 to 2008. When I went to a flatter swing with a more upright stance, I found the "average" clubs worked for most models.

I started "catching the toe" slightly on my 2* flat irons, and went to normal lie last time I switched irons. (Main reason for switch was move from stiff to regular shafts, but in process discovered "average" lie angle now works best).
