Is there a general rule when it comes to waist rotation?  I found that I was rotating too far back during my backswing which was/is causing me to push the ball, as I'm not getting caught up during my downswing.

When I push it, the ball will generaly travel around as far as if I'd hit it straight.  So it makes me thing that my alignment at impact is just off a bit.

It's really not a huge problem and I believe I'll be able to figure it out before long, I was just wondering what the general "rule of thumb" is here.

Thanks in advance.

Most i have seen is 45 degree difference between shoulder and waist. So if the shoulders are 90 at the top, then the waist is 45.

I got the same issue, when my swing gets to long and overswing, i am like 110 and 60, its crazy. recently i have shortened it alot, and i find i am at 45/90 now, its scary how much you can overswing.

Since most people can't get there shoulders to 90 with out really stretching, go till you feel resistance and thats when you start your lower body. If thats 45, then fine, if its less, thats fine. Its all depending on your body type. I am really flexible rotation wise, so i got to think about it. Which means, my swing feels really really arms only, but its not at all.

Thanks for the response.

How about at the point of contact?  In terms of where my belt buckle should be pointing.  I'm assuming at the target, but I could be wrong.  I'd just watch videos to see but I'm at work and am unable to.  Dang IT guys.

i like my belt buckle to point over my right foot when the club is at the top of my swing. Thats about 45 degrees open.

The simplest correction I found for my push shots was to add a tiny amount of plamar flexion to my left wrist before the takeaway. Just enough that the club face closes a little and stays closed that amount on the downswing.

I too over-rotate but fro what I can gather it makes no difference as long as your downswing is being lead by your hips and not arms.

Regarding belt buckle at the point of impact I try to feel like I have mine more or less in the same position as address to make sure I'm sliding forward correctly. In reality it's normally about 45 degrees between address and target.

At impact, 45 degrees open usually, so pointing over the left foot.

But it depends on the golfer, Rory's waist is pointing at the target when his club gets to impact.
