If I want a wedge(58) that I can open up the face on, should I look for a higher bounce(12) or a lower bounce(8).

The lower bounce will keep the leading edge closer to the ground.

* Edit - Having said that, and looking at my SW and LW, I would add the the width of the sole might actually make a bigger difference on which on keeps the leading edge closer to the ground.

Check out Wedge bounce on 56? and Determining wedge bounce threads on this Clubs forum. These started in April and March, and contain some good links. As far as "opening up" the 58* a lot, try a wedge head that has "relief" - metal shaved away form the toe and heel ends of the sole. High relief wedges include the a Cleveland DSG heads, a Callaway C-grind head, and a couple of the Vokey sole grinds. I'm not sure what how bounce figures in this. Of the "relief" wedges, Cleveland DSGs have lower bounce, while Callaway wedges have higher bounce. You can open up or close down most wedges a couple of degrees, but extreme manipulation works best with high relief head. Caution: Club designer Ralph Maltby says that DSG/C-grind type wedges are difficult to hit consistently unless you're a low-HDCP golfer.
