Hi, new to the forum.  Trying to find an old range ball.  My grandfather owned Johnson's Driving Range in Cedar Falls, NJ.  It was across from the old Meadowbrook on Rt. 23.  I have pictures, old clubs and other things, but not a single ball from the range.  They were white with an orange stripe around the ball and "Johnson's Range" on them.  Anyone know where I might start to look?  Better yet, anyone have one in their shag bag?  Willing to pay to get one or more.  Thanks, Bart Johnson

Hey Bart - I may be off on this, but are you sure you don't mean "Cedar Grove" NJ, near the "Willowbrook" Mall? I grew up in Wayne, NJ just off Rt.23, and that's the only town I know of with the word "Cedar" in in, likewise the "Willowbrook" Mall where Routes 23, 80 and 46 all cross. There's a large, multi-tiered driving range and mini-golf course that's been there for some years also, which is what makes me think that's what you're referring to. If it is, I'm afraid I have never seen one of those balls. How far back are we talking? The latest incarnation of the driving range has been there since the 90's, I believe. I've only been there a few times (I've moved up 23 to Sussex County) but if I ever stop there again I'll take a look through the weeds on the side, and ask at the desk for you. Good luck in the hunt! Tom

Bag It:

3-Wood Wishon 525 F/D, 13*, Matrix Studio 65gm, Golf Pride Dual Compound
Hybrid: Wishon "321", 24*, MSF 85 HB, Winn DSI
Irons: Wishon 770CFE, Matrix Studio 74gm, Winn DSI

Putter: Odyssey DFX 2-Ball

Bag: Some big, honkin', ridiculous overkill of an Ogio cart bag with more pockets than I have teeth.

Yes, Tom, my mistake.  I was mixing Cedar Grove and Little Falls together!  No, this range was further down from Willowbrook Mall on Rt.23.  Not sure if it is still there, but the Meadowbrook Night Club was across the street from in on Rt. 23.  It is all industrial now after my grandfather sold the prooperty.  We are talking about 40 years ago.  I am sure there are few of the range balls out there some place.  But I know it is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.  Thanks for responding.  Bart

Hey. My dad lives on the site of the old Johnson driving range. He thought me there. Weird that he now lives there.  Yes the range is gone but the condo association built a putting green in the middle of the complex. Very nice place.  I miss the old range though. If I find a ball I'll let you know. I remember them well.

FYI, the guys you're responding to haven't visited the site in 5 years, so don't take it personally if they don't reply, haha. Welcome!

    • Day 5 - 2024-10-05 Hit some somewhat soft pitching wedges. The outside and inside, particularly the outside of the left thumb where my right hand goes on it, is still pretty sore. I don't think I'll do more damage, but I'm reluctant to do too much because I don't want to compensate or alter my motion.
    • Day 156 (05 Sep 24) - Played new to me course today, it’s near our beach place and have been wanting to play it for a couple of years now.  It’s a neat Par 70 that plays just over 6k from the tips, played the whites 5,500 +/-.  Tight fairways and severely undulating greens made for some great shot strategy.  Wound up with an even 80 that included two lost ball penalties.  Putter was solid - 28 total.  Wedge play kept the pars happening - 6 of the 9 pars were up and downs.  Not bad for the first time on a new course.
