I'm a fan of John Daly. I can't help but pull for the guy. I just wish he would take his profession a little more seriously and put in the time on the range to find himself again.
Please post your thoughts on Big John fan or not and lets see if we can pull him out of this slump! The tour needs guys like Daly! The 95 British win was awesome!

He's showing signs of consistancy and I really thought he'd be around for the weekend. I dont know why he's endorsing the maxfli ball, but at least he ditched his Dunlop gear for taylormade equipment. I agree that the tour needs guys like JD, love him or hate him, aside from Tiger and Mike Weir playing in Canada, he probably draws the largest crowds in golf. People come to see JD play and thats keeping the PGA tour alive. Its all up to him though, his drinking, smoking, eating and generally unhealthy life style gets in the way of his career. As long as he puts recreation in front of golf, he wont win more than 1 or 2 times, at the most before he dies of a heart attack when he's 50. I mean the guy cant even pick up a bottle of water when everyone knows staying hydrated is an important part of golf.. I dont know why his MD doesnt just say if you keep this up you'll be dead in 10 years. Im not saying i want that to happen, but the way he's going its bound to.

I like the guy, I really do.. Matter of fact I wanted to buy his book to put a couple of bucks in his pocket. Oh ya clubswinger21 whenever I read JD in your post here I couldnt help but think Jack Daniels, sorry someone had to say it. Anyway I hoping that Taylor Made will get on him to put a little more time into his game.

Strange, since those are his initials and a nick name that alot of announcers, and fellow tour players call him by.

The one important thing you forgot is that his wife was in jail for 6 months out of that year, so his mind wasn't all with it...but he is now getting rid of her so he should play better now.

Yeah, one thing you should know about John Daly is just how much talent this guy had. I think he was off scratch/-1 at 13 which is up there with Woods at the same age, which puts him in a talent bracket way ahead of most PGA pros around at the minute, back then. He could have gone on to produce great things in golf, no doubt.

Don't worry too much though, financially, hes secure for the rest of his life. Awesome talent, too many demons.

It's a shame that JD hasn't taken better care of himself. He seems like a nice guy and his working man persona will always be something people can identify with. Unfortunately his place as a role-model hasn't been cemented since he hasn't overcome his demons.

Having said all of that, I'm still a fan. I wish him well for 2007.

John Daly missed the cut at the FBR .
He shot a 1 over par 72 in round one that included
1 eagle, 2 birdies, 3 bogeys and a double bogey.
In round two he shot par 71 with 6 birdies and 6 bogeys.
He's only made one cut out of three tournaments this year.

Hi ipark1303

i don't think that John Daly is a journeyman like some of the other pros-its #### or bust everytime he goes out unfortunately.

he has so many commitments now off the course i don't see how he'll be consistent on the course especially with his habits that he's told us all about.

i predict a 125 place on the US tour money list still though. Did you know that he made 9 million dollars off the course last year?

i remember the British Open last year when he plonked his drive ob on the 18th and then hit his 4th shot ob again from the fairway and eventually made an eight to miss the cut by 1 shot!!..i couldn't believe that.. i thought that it was very sad.

maybe he should look to Christianity like Tom Lehman did which helped to turn his game around!!

It would be a great thing to see JD turn his life around - a success story off the course that would more than likely lead to success on it.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
