Its bad...I got my first cheap set of clubs last year for fathers day but only went maybe 3 times, before that my experience was hitting balls in the backyard for fun. This year though I've been going 2 or more times a week and recently purchased a callaway driver and odyssey putter and have gotten better every week. I went from scoring in the 100's to mid 90's and then posted an 87 yesterday using my new putter for the first time...Everytime I go out I can feel my swing getting better and after the 18th, I never want to stop playing...PGA Tour players are the luckiest dudes on the planet.

As lucky as they may be a lot of them struggle with not thinking of it as their job. When it becomes a job it's not fun when your life may actually depend on how well you play.

I know the feeling shooter. I started in November and I'm exactly the same way you are. Even down the the Callaway driver and Odyssey putter. Unfortunately my FT5 broke and now I hit a Taylormade Burner Superfast. I play 9 holes or more at least twice a week and usually more often. I also spend time hunting golf balls in the woods. It's kinda sad. Going to have to slow down when classes start back in August though. Need to finish college!

Also, what kind of driver and putter? I ordered an Odyssey White Steel #5 putter and Callaway FT-5 driver from global golf for right at 110 bucks a few months ago. I just recently purchased an Odyssey White Ice Rossa and like it pretty good as well.

I got a Callaway diablo edge from the local sports store and an odyssey white hot xg #1 from Dicks...the rest of my clubs are Walter Hagens...I plan on sticking with Callaway and buying a set of irons before the years over and then selling my cheap Hagen set and put that money towards a new bag I love my driver ...it seems to be pretty forgiving and I can hit it a mile sometimes (I hit a drive yesterday that was level with the pin on the left side tall stuff on a 300 yd par 4...although I had a pretty helpful bounce on the fairway)...the putter on the other hand is lightyears better than the one that came with my set...at first I thought clubs didn't really matter and that I could do just as good with any old set but that definently isn't the case

That's great. I loved my FT-5 before it broke. I got it used and it wasn't in great shape but I just needed something to hit for a while. I also hit Callaway X-20 irons and they're really solid game improvement irons. I got 2-AW with a 3 wood and a bag from a guy on Craigslist for $250 back in December I think. If you can find a used set of irons in good shape then that's definitely the way to go. Good luck my friend.. Hope you continue to improve!
