Just figured I would post this up on TST as we have quite a bit of interaction with all the friendly people on TST.  If you have bought, looked or come to the site this may be of interest to you.

Thanks so much! Oh and would love to get your thoughts, so if you have two seconds please give us your honest answer(s) on the poll.

Ha! Love the suggestion, have you seen http://golfty.com?  If you want I can throw you a free product search and we can find you a deal on it.  PM me with what you want to pay etc and I'll see what we can do for you.

BTW, thanks for the comments, you rock!

The addition of tee times would be great.  I only buy equipment so often, but I do pay for tee times frequently!

@LeftCoast, totally agree with you.  Can you give me some suggestions on courses in your area that you play or would play with a discount?

I would definitely be more willing to branch out to some more courses in my area.  Some of them might be: Langdon Farms, Heron Lakes, Quail Valley, The Reserve, Redtail, Pumpkin Ridge (Ghost Creek), Wildwood.  Thanks for looking into it.

@chaptown definitely an area of focus for us in the next few months.  Trying vigorously to get some of these on Shotly cause we are 100% in agreement.

@LeftCoast, awesome!  Let me reach out to them and see what we can negotiate with them.

The other thing that would be awesome is spreading the word, sometimes we negotiate deals with golf courses but without the proper volume to support these areas.... well they laugh at us :)  Kidding, but growing the area definitely will benefit everyone involved.

Hopefully as soon as a few courses jump on - a lot more will want a piece of it

Eventually even Canada maybe

@Kieran123 Oddly enough we just got off the phone with a Canadian course.  Though, Canada is pretty large.  There is definitely high hopes of expanding out there though.  Gotta keep the train moving and expanding :)

I think it is a great idea, but I think there are a few issues.  I also check every day, and I'd love to see some tee time deals in the New Orleans, Louisiana area.  I play Chateau, Lakewood, English Turn, and Audobon Park.  Any tee specials at any of those courses would be great.

The only one I thought was a silly deal was the Nike Machspeed Hybrid, which you claimed retailed for $239 - which it didn't, many online retailers had them for $89 and my local Authority Sports for $99.  In fact, I found an online retailer $84 with free shipping cheaper than shotly, which was $85 with shipping.

It seems like you get fantastic discounts on small items (a real 70% plus, not a fake retail price) and pretty bad discounts on clubs and big items (I've seen auctions where the "saving" plus shipping is like $4, or like the Machspeed, where other online retail stores are actually cheaper).   On the other "groupon" type sites they don't seem to fall off the discount on bigger items.

so, that would be one critique - the larger items don't seem like deals at all, with shipping pretty close to the actual price most times.

Hey John

Thanks for the comments and definitely thank you for the courses, it really helps to have specific courses so we have an idea of which ones to conquer first.  To give you a point of reference, on all our deals we go off of the Manufacturers Retail not another website, we do this not to inflate numbers but because so many vendors have so many different prices comparing a price just isn't realistic nor accurate. So for example, on the Nike Machspeed, the MSRP or retail actually is $239 on that club (in fact, MSRP is actually higher). I can definitely confirm we don't inflate numbers cause we realize there are a ton of consumers who probably know more about where the best deal is and what the price is than some of us because you are scouring at all times for that specific product.

We do however agree there are improvements to be made, but at the same time we are not always going to beat an eBay price, we just don't consider that a reasonable source for a price point, not to mention we work off of our cost, not what other's sell for. The reason being is people may compare used to our new, it may be a left handed versus a right handed (lefty's are always discounted more on the bay).  The single most important reason we don't compare eBay to our prices is you don't know who you are dealing with on eBay, with us you can pick up the phone and give us a shout, find us on many forums.... then of course there is the counterfeit issue that I see people run into all the time on there.

'

Anyways, a bit long winded, but I wanted to make sure I fully responded to your post to give you some insight on how we price, why we price and to assure you we definitely take your feedback seriously, just some times we miss the mark or there may not be an applicable comparison.  Thank you for taking the time to write.

Thanks for the response, Matt. I haven't bought yet from Shotly but I check daily and I know of a few people who are happy with things they've bought, and it's only a matter of time until I join them.

Thanks Erik, anything in particular you are looking for?  Maybe I could give you a sneak peek and a day to keep an eye out for.

Heh. If you happen to come across a bunch of Casio EX-FH25s at a good price, I'll buy at least 10 of 'em! ;-)

I don't end up buying too much golf stuff. I rarely get to play anymore. ;-)

Lol, funny I had to do a google search to figure out what the heck those were.  Well, we will take the support either way :)  If it makes you feel any better since starting Shotly, I haven't really got to play any at all myself

    • I work with a lot of golfers who want more shaft lean at impact, who currently have AoAs that range from +2° to -2°, and who love to see the handle lower and more "in front of their trail thigh" from face-on at P6. And a lot of these golfers try to solve the issue by working on the downswing. They do something to drag the handle forward. Or they just leave their right thigh farther back so the same handle location "looks" farther forward. Or they move the ball back in their stance. Or they push themselves down into the ground to get the handle lower and increase (decrease?) their AoA (to be more negative). The real fix is often to get wider in the backswing. To do LESS in the backswing. To hinge less, fold the trail arm less, abduct the trail arm less. I had a case of this over the weekend. Before, the player had 110° of trail elbow bend, "lifted" his trail humerus only a few degrees, etc. The club traveled quite a bit around him, and he tended to "pick" the ball from the fairways. In the "after" swings below (which are mild exaggerations — this golfer does not need to end up at < 70° of elbow bend. These were slower backswings with "hit it as hard as you normally would" intent downswings), you can see that he bent his elbow about 70° instead of 110° and lifted his right arm an extra ~15° or more. You can't see how much less this moved his hands across his chest (right arm abduction), but it was also decreased. His hands stayed more "in front of" his right shoulder rather than traveling "beside" them so much. The two swings look like this: The change at P6, without talking about the downswing one little bit (outside of him telling me that he tends to pick the ball), is remarkable: Without 110° of elbow bend to get out (which he gets to 80°, a loss of 30°), the golfer actually loses slightly less elbow bend (70 - 50 = 20), but delivers 30° less elbow bend, lowering the handle and letting the elbow get "in front of" the rib cage… because it never got "behind" or "beside" the rib cage. If you look at this video showing the before/afters of P6, you'll note the handle location (both vertically and horizontally) and the shoulders (the ball is in the same place in these frames). This golfer's path was largely unaffected (still pretty straight into the ball, < 3° path and often < 1.5°), but his AoA jumped to -5° ± 2°. I've always said, and in talking with other instructors they agree and feel similarly, that we spend a lot of time working on the backswing. This is another example of why.
    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
