Somehow I've gained 15 yards in both my 5iron and PW and about 10y in my 9iron. Looking down at them they look like they are supposed to, but, I have a suspicion it may have to do with my clubs not being checked for loft and lie for some time now. So I'm gonna take them to my club-fitter tomorrow.

I have been working on leg strength and stamina with cycling along with yoga for flexibility. Plus I've bee working on a longer backswing. Hopefully these are where my gains are coming from and not bent forged irons... *fingers crossed*

If you have gained length in only certain clubs then something is wrong. Not to mention the likelihood that you probably now hit a few clubs the exact same distance making certain clubs pointless to have in the bag.

Nice work. Adding both strength and flexibility may not help everyone gain distance but it sure can. I place my bet on flexibility from yoga being the key. If it is only some clubs, try to hit the others like you hit those. :)

I concur....

If it's only a couple irons, something is wrong with the clubs.  If it's a range of clubs.....like all your short irons, then it has something to do with ball position and setup.  IE.........I sometimes trend towards hitting my short irons really long(too long), but that's because I sometimes de-loft them and drive them lower.  After a quick setup correction, everything goes back to normal.

If you're only hitting your 5-iron and wedge crazy long distances, you have club issues.

Amazing what happens when you finally hit the sweet spot!

Probably making better contact with those clubs and thats why they're going further.   Mines usually the 8 iron, sometimes ill hit it farther then the 7 because its easier for me to hit.

    • Day 171 - 2025-03-20 Got a good 30 minutes in today. A little backswing so it doesn't get too far out of hand, then some downswing stuff. If I'm in a good spot at the top I have a chance even without the best downswing.
    • First day of spring and we had colossal snowflakes here.   The temperature has dropped significantly.   I may not get to golf until mid-April.

    • So to start with I’m 67 years old and just returned to the game a month or so ago after a 30+ year break. . To give you an idea of how long I’ve been away from golf, there were no hybrids last time I got serious about it. I’m enjoying it and seeing gains/improvement every time out. That said, I’m playing with antique woods (Old Taylormade Burners) and since I’m playing with Callaway irons (2004 BBs) I’d like to stick with the brand and upgrade to Callaway woods - at least a driver and a 3 for now.   For a glimpse of my ability, I hit the 3 wood 200 yards and more or less straight, and I think I newer tech clubs might help. Also I’m 6’5” and these clubs are a bit short for me, by 1 1/2” or so.   So looking at the gillions of perfectly fine looking Callaway drivers on eBay I’m completely overwhelmed and under-informed. I’m also doing this on a self-imposed budget since I’m not good enough to warrant new, exotic, pricey stuff and I’m pretty sure anything made in the last 20 years will do nicely.    So given all that, anyone have any specific suggestions on a good/prefered model Callaway driver that can be had for around $50? If I earn better gear by improving my performance I’ll go after it then, get fitted for clubs again, all that. But for now my goal is bogey golf so I’m limiting my golf allowance accordingly.    Thanks, cheers, and happy golfing.  As examples, I’m looking at RAZR, BBII, X460, Fusion FT series, Diablo, etc. and I can’t tell if they are all good and I should just shop price or if one or more are preferable over others. TIA…
    • G'day all. My name's Glenn and my mates call me Corbs. I'm a 50-something-year-old Aussie who HATED golf until COVID when I got utterly and irrevocably hooked. I'm playing three rounds a week and loving it. My best mate that I started golf with during COVID hit an Ace this week! Our foursome - including his son - all watched the ball disappear and we went absolutely mental! Only been playing a few years and improving quickly and trying to get to under 17 handicap this year. Thanks for having me!
