My stance for all my shots (wedges through driver) is slightly open. The face is also slightly open at address..not much..just slighlty. I do have a stong grip..may 3 knuckles shown. I try to make contact with the ball on the inner quadrant..between 4 and 5 o'clock.

What should the path of the ball flight be? I noticed it's either a cut or straight..I'd say most of the time cutting..which is my desired path.

Does this sound right? I assume my strong grips but open stance and open face is balancing each other out for the most part but the open stance/face is a tad more overpowering and thus giving me the desired cut.

My question is should I weaken my grip slightly..maybe a 2 knuckle or LESS and line up more square with the face more sqaure than open?

..lots of band-aids huh..

I try to invision the target line through my ball at address and then swing along that line. If you have a somewhat decent swing you will automaticly have an in to out swing. For me, thinking about anything other than that line is too much during a swing. As soon as you learn to hit the ball straight or with a slight draw like that, you can change stance-clubface to draw or fade the ball as needed. Just my .02 cents

Sounds like you have more of a slice than a cut. I dont no but from the sounds of what your saying. It is easier and the more consitent way to line directly to the target with the club directly to the target. It is better to hit the ball straight as even a high percentage of single figure handicaps cannot draw or fade the ball on command. It is more important to try to hit the ball straight then to try to cut the ball.

This is just my opinion but it your golf swing and your way playing the game. Good luck!!!
Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.

Take a good look at all the different set ups out their, if your happy with your ball flight don't worry about and have a great round.

Don’t change a thing. If it’s comfortable, and repeatable then your set. There are no magic fixes, changing a stance or grip won’t have you shooting par over night. Practice with what you have.

Your setup sounds very similar to mine, but I play with a weaker grip than you with my irons. I play a fade also; although I can hit a draw when I need to I don’t enjoy that shot. A fade looks so much better to me than a draw and in my opinion is easier to control.

The only exception to the above is my driver setup. I close my stance to square, and play the shot as straight as I can.

A lot of people will tell you that you loose a lot of distance by playing open like we do. I play my 8iron from 155 and can bully it to 160 if I need to. So play your way and when you outshoot them by 10 strokes the loss of distance talk will stop.

Sounds like your okay to me. In situations like yours: where your hitting the ball well but just want to tweak some things, I would just hit the range and try out a few different things. I wouldnt go crazy though because it sounds like your fine. In my opinion, playing anti-left golf is the way to go.

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.

    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
