First of all, I have to give big Kudos to Gas_Can for a bit of help and persuasion on this one. He responded to a few threads/PMs and subliminally helped me out.

I have been hitting a Taylormade TP R7 460 for the past few months. It had the stock TP Mits shaft and performed admirably but nothing to get excited about. I really liked the control of the head but I was not really killing it. This got me looking at other new drivers coming out and shaft options. I did some research on high dollar shafts and even got custom fitted for an Matrix Ozik Code 6 shaft. I ordered it up and got it in. I decided to wait for all the new drivers coming and did not want to waste it on my "old' 460. Last weekend I purchased a Sumo2 on a whim. I was scared to hit it because I was not sure I would really like it. This past week I found a demo model and was able to take it out and play a round with it. Boy am I glad I did not hit the new driver. Back to the shop it went. No amount of shaft customization was going to help me with that driver. Oddly enough, I hit my "old" 460 much straighter. Anyway, on Friday as I was returning the Sumo2, I noticed the Graphite Design Pershing shafts on the Golfsmith wall. I am a Proplan member and build most of my own clubs. After seeing the price of the shaft and consulting with the Golfsmith tech, I decided to try the Pershing 65g Stiff. I figured I could put this into my "old" 460 and this would keep me satisfied until the new Burner came out and I could get the Code 6 in it. I had the shaft Pured and put it in the "old" 460. Since the Burner is going to be a 46" driver I figured I would try the Pershing at 45.75" to get used to the extra length. The head weighs in at D6 which is a bit heavy but not noticeable at all. My swingspeed is 98mph and my bad shots are blocked right. I do not hit a slice but just get stuck inside too often. There is your background now for the results:

I played a round this Saturday and then spent some time with it on the range yesterday and today. The shaft has transformed my "old" 460. I do not know if it is the extra length or what but I can mash this driver. I hate reading posts where people "claim" they are hitting something 30-40 yards further but I am now adding to my own disdain. I played our back tees and was hitting my driver in spots that I normally hit it in from the white tees. I marked off some drive only 10-15 yards further and some 35-40 yards further. this shaft is smooth and feels flexible in the "waggle test" but when you need to step on it it just hangs right in there. It lowered my ball flight a bit over the stock Mits TP shaft and has added a bit of draw to my shot. The main thing is it has given me confidence I have not had in a long time with my driver. Saturday, after I began to realize what I was able to do with the "new/old" 460, I hit my driver on holes I normally use a 3-wood or even a hybrid to keep it in play. I just knew I could pull off a shot with my driver if needed.

Anyway, I cannot recommed this shaft highly enough. At the cost you can get one and if you are a Speeder 757 player or like a shaft that has that profile, you will be thrilled. Thanks again Gas_can and lookout. Anyone want to buy a brand new Code 6?

awtryau89,

I'm glad I could be of assistance. The more I play it, the more I love the Pershing. It's simply a fantastic shaft, essentially a smoother feeling 757 which as you mentioned, stays with you even when you go after it. If you're playing the 757 with success, take a long look at the Pershing, it's only 1/3 the price and performs just as well.

Glad it's working out for you.

    • I missed about 11 weeks of golf this summer due to a back issue, and my distance is still not recovered.  Yet my Handicap Index is 7.0, as compared to 9.1 last January.  So apparently I'm better!  TBH, I haven't improved any skills, with the possible exception of making better decisions.  Ah well, it'll be fun in the new year, as it always is.
    • Yeah, it started Tuesday night.  I watched the first hour and a half or so of it. I enjoyed it. It was fast paced, different, entertaining, etc. I think it's a perfect thing to watch in the winter when good portions of the country are stuck inside and have nothing else to do on Monday evenings. (First week was on a Tuesday but the rest of the matches are on Mondays I believe) The whole thing ran pretty smoothly IMO. Technology seemed to work fine, and if this is the "worst" that it's going to look and feel, I'm here for it.  My wife bought a Boston Common shirt last night because she likes the logo. I think Boston Common is the best logo and I'll probably pick up a hat or shirt from them as well. There isn't one team that is made up of 4 players that I like a lot, but if I had to pick a team to be a fan of, I'd pick LA or Team Jupiter, but I feel like Team Jupiter will be a fan favorite simply because of Tiger.
    • Day 30: 1/9/2025 Great day to go to the range on lunch. I had spent time off on all morning working on my Priority piece. I have a spare 7 iron right outside my office with a mirror for me to practice when I go in or out of my office. The range was nice, at one point I was the only customer there. Anyway, mixed results again, but I think its starting to come together. I'll have to grab more film first chance I get and send it to Yoda.
    • I saw a couple videos on YouTube about this league. It seems it started a few days ago. thoughts?
