I was doing a little research on the Titleist site, comparing the specs on their balls. I noticed if you add the diameters of the ball elements, you get less than the 1.68" min USGA spec.

For example, the new Pro V1 is a 3-piece ball, with the following specs:
Core -- 1.53"
Casing -- 0.045"
Cover -- 0.03"

Total -- 1.605"

Same applies to their other balls, which vary from 1.605" to 1.63". I would think, since their numbers are given to the thousandth of an inch, that an error of 8 hundreths inch is unlikely. Are their numbers bogus?

(I've seen reference to a 1.62" inch international ball, I wonder if Titleist makes those, and if that's what their website specs are based on.)

You miscalculated slightly. The core is given as a diameter, but the casing and cover are given as thickneses, so you have that thickness on each side of the core. Therefore, you have to double the values for the last 2 dimensions, and if you do you get exactly 1.68"
