It must be weird for Daly to play with someone who'll be hitting it past him all day.

Not necessarily. Bubba might not be hitting driver every hole; he had some good hybrid / iron shots off the tee at FBR on some holes. IIRC, he doesn't carry any woods other than the driver, though, so it isn't as likely as if, say, Tiger decided he wanted more control at a loss of distance.

None of the three broke par in the 1st round . . . Daly ended +3 (74).

I think his shoulder is still hurting, so anything other than driver has to hurt to hit. That and his putter didn't cooperate.

Given a difficulty in hitting irons and fairway woods, +3 is a good score. I'd hurt my shoulder in exchange for being able to hit a +3 on demand :)

a. I doubt he's still injured.

I dunno. Muscle injuries can come and go. And I've played while injured, I can't imagine *not* playing with a minor injury when I could make money by doing so.

I saw some highlights on the Golf Channel and they were showing where every time John was hitting, he would remove his right hand from the club on the follow through so it looked like he was definitely having some problems.
