A tale of two 9's

I had one of those rounds which starts out as a bit of a nightmare, then turns around.  This weekend is my club's annual Point Par tournament, using modified Stableford scoring.  The point values being:

Double Eagle:  10

Eagle:  6

Birdie:  3

Par:  1

Bogey: -1

Double bogey or worse: -2

All are for net hole scores.

I shot a 45 on the front for a less than inspiring 8 points (including 2 net bogies and 2 net doubles), then woke up to a 39 back for 19 net points - total 27.  The guy leading our flight made 39 total points, but he was pulling shots out of his rectal area.  I played with him and he made 3 net eagles from improbable places.  Kudos to him for a great round, but the rest of us are now playing for second place.

At least I managed to get back in the mix on the back 9, even though that is the more difficult side on my home course, but I lament what might have been if I'd figured out my game a bit sooner in the round.  Maybe tomorrow I'll figure it out sooner.  On the 8th hole I even double hit a 12 inch putt to incur a one stroke penalty, and I've never double hit a putt in my life.

Anybody else with a story of two 9's where you recovered from a horrendous start?  Or any other unlikely comeback?

Good recovery!  I have a story that fits what you're talking about... but, by the time my game even THOUGHT about coming around... I was so far out of EVERYTHING that it didn't matter.

It was earlier this season.  I had been playing horribly and was really looking forward to this course.  Last season, I shot my best round of my career to that point (85) on that course and nearly won the event.  Because I was playing so poorly, I figured I'd come back to that course with good memories and turn things around.  Didn't happen.

I started out the front side like I had never touched a golf club before.

12 - 7 - 8 - 5 - 5 - 9 - 6 - 4 - 6 = 62

I made double or worse on all but two holes... and those were both bogeys.  I was disgusted.  We had pretty much lost the doubles match already, and I was also all but done in my singles match.  We ended up losing doubles and I got lambasted in singles anyway... but, at least the back side resembled my skill level a little bit.

7 - 4 - 4 - 5 - 5 - 5 - 8 - 5 - 3 = 46

Still not good enough for me to leave happy... but, I had a pair of pars and closed with a birdie.

That 108 tied for my worst round over the last 2 seasons (I've shot the same score 3 times).  Since then, my scores have been a little more reasonable (93 - 97 - 89 - 98 - 94 - 93) but still nowhere near what I need to compete.

I play my first club round since June 26th tomorrow.  I'm all but eliminated in singles... but we're tied for 3rd in doubles right now.  I then play the final round of my county championship on Monday morning.  I'm pretty sure I'm out of the running there.  I posted a net score of 77 this past Tuesday.  It would take a net 65 or better to even THINK about having a shot... which I don't have in me at this course.

Either way... I'm hoping my poor streak is over.

Good luck tomorrow in the final round of your tournament.  Keep the confidence that you had on the back nine today and you may surprise yourself.

I am the master of two different nines.

Almost all my rounds this year have had a blowout nine.

Today I shot 44 ( after starting triple, double ) then shot a 39 on the back.

It's almost getting frustrating. When the **** am I gonna break 80?

One of the first times I golfed i shot a 66 on the front nine and then proceeded to shoot 50 on the back nine, including my first birdie and hitting a drive on a par 5 measuring 500 yards to the 200 to go marker.
