Was checking out this book "Tiger Woods; How I play golf" recently and found some good stuff in the book. He definitely had a solid swing with Butch when this stuff was written about.

Here's a couple paragraphs about the centered swing he had ever since a kid

"Think Long and Wide"

"I have two goals on my takeaway: To establish a very wide swing arc, and to shift my weight fully to my right side without sliding to my right. I try to extend the butt end of the shaft as far from my right hip as I possibly can, My shoulders turning to make it possible. You'll notice that my right leg is angled toward the target a bit even though I've clearly shifted my weight onto my right side ."

"The Most Common Backswing Error"

Shifting your hips laterally to the right just kills your backswing. If your right hip moves outside your right foot, you have to slide back to the left just to hit the ball. It's hard to time that move properly. Whats more, you've cut your power by about 50 percent, because a sliding motion on the downswing isn't anywhere near as powerful as a rotary unwinding of the hips and shoulders. This is something Ive worked on since I was a kid; it is an absolute trademark of my swing."

Feel ain't real and pressure ain't weight.

Like Hogan, Tiger "feels" a lot of things he doesn't actually do. Putter straight back and straight through? Nope. Plus, Tiger clearly no longer feels the same way, and didn't feel exactly the same even under Haney.

Feel ain't real and pressure ain't weight. (See, I can bold things too!)

P.S. He's right about shifting your hips right. Good for him. We prefer people not to slide their hips right on the backswing too.

    • A hair under 190. It was pretty downhill, though, so I think we were playing between 180-185 to the pin. My 6 iron went 187 according to shot scope and ended up 18 feet away.
    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
    • Have you measured? 🙂
    • I'm bad about taking pictures, but here are a few Hole 1 on Duke, looking toward the green. The elevated green with bunkers surrounding it was a theme. The other theme was pin placements that were tough - this one is pretty far left. There were basically no easy pins on this day.     Hole 3 at Pine Needles. An extremely cool hole. Hole 5 at Pine Needles. The picture doesn't do the green site justice. Green of 6 at Southern Pines. A wild green, and a really cool setting at the edge of the property: Hole  Tee shot on 5 at Tobacco Road. Flag is on the flag, the huge fairway is to the right. Hole 8 at Tobacco Road. Downhill, medium length par 3 with this pin in the front part of the green. Really cool looking shot. A look at the pin placement and cottage on Tobacco Road 14. I hit one of my best shots of the trip here, to about 15 feet.
