Here is me at the range tonight. Took 5 normal swings without any swing thoughts and 4 of the 5 hit the toe of the club, 1 of the 5 was just toward the toe of the club.

Next I tried hitting just inside the hosel which resulted in a pretty consistent pattern towards the toe of the club.

Lastly I swung trying to intentionally hit the ball off the hosel (mark closest to the hosel).

Anyone have some tips on how to correct missing this badly? The hooks are hurting what little game I have left.

I would suspect your flipping/casting the club into impact?  I have problems with toe hits from time to time and found out that it was caused by moving my head forward in the downswing, or opening up my shoulders too quickly, causing an out to in swing.  Basically, I got out of position, and my hands had to caste early in order not miss the ball.

Maybe that is what is happening?

I've been struggling with the same thing of late and, at least in my case, Shaggie's right on the money. I also have a bad tendency to pick the club up, which contributes to my casting problem. My problem is I'm struggling to overcome the hitting impulse from the top. When I can manage to take the club back on plane and make a nice smooth swing with good tempo and a full body rotation I make center contact and the ball goes long and straight. Otherwise I overswing, let my hands get ahead of my body, cut across the ball and hit it off the toe. Maddening I tell ya! Maddening!

I will have someone take a look while I am practicing at home. It is possible that I am casting but for the last few years I have had a slightly inside out swing due to back problems. Went from a big slice to a nice little draw. I only played 1 round last year, due to the back, so I have probably changed my swing a little from what it used to be.

I thought it might be due to the weighting on my current clubs but I pulled out an older set and was doing the same thing.

Try steel capped boots.

Wait....what?

too steep into impact would be my guess.

how you fix that is dependent on why/how you are getting too steep.

It was sweltering here last night but I did manage to hit a small bucket (about 40 balls) before the fear of metling set in. There was nobody to watch my swing so I had to concentrate to try to be sure I was not casting. The first few hits were little draws out on the toe as usual. I was fairly confident after a few more hits casting was not the problem.

Turns out it was simple, something I had forgotten over the past few years of not playing much. I started swinging a little slower and keeping my eyes focused on the back of ball much longer than normal after impact. By the end of the bucket I had hit about 15 in a row near the sweet spot with decent distance, direction and ball flight. I'll need to reinforce it a few more times before I call it a solution but it looks promising.

I really didn't think it was possible for me to swing too hard with the way my back has been.

    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
    • Have you measured? 🙂
    • I'm bad about taking pictures, but here are a few Hole 1 on Duke, looking toward the green. The elevated green with bunkers surrounding it was a theme. The other theme was pin placements that were tough - this one is pretty far left. There were basically no easy pins on this day.     Hole 3 at Pine Needles. An extremely cool hole. Hole 5 at Pine Needles. The picture doesn't do the green site justice. Green of 6 at Southern Pines. A wild green, and a really cool setting at the edge of the property: Hole  Tee shot on 5 at Tobacco Road. Flag is on the flag, the huge fairway is to the right. Hole 8 at Tobacco Road. Downhill, medium length par 3 with this pin in the front part of the green. Really cool looking shot. A look at the pin placement and cottage on Tobacco Road 14. I hit one of my best shots of the trip here, to about 15 feet.
    • Yes, but season 2 being all of six episodes is a bit of a let-down, even if the season itself wasn't.
