I read "The Art of the Short Game" Stan Utley. I really enjoyed the book. I think I full understand the Chip Shot. I don't feel as comfortable  over the Pitch shot. I was wondering if anyone on here has read his book and watch Mickelson DVD, are the similar in method? I think a good video might clear a couple of comfort items up. I really want to improve my short game.

Thanks for any info.

I have Utley's Art of the Shortgame book and the Mickelson DVD. I got a lot more out of the DVD. Phil's Hinge and Hold method works very well for me.

I use hinge and hold from 60 yards and in and I owe it all to the Mickelson DVD...

I bought The Art of the Shortgame and really couldn't take anything at all from it.  I sincerely tried, but I just couldn't grasp the concepts being expressed in the book and translate those concepts into physical movements on my part.  I ordered Phil's DVD a couple months later and the short game is the absolute most enjoyable part of my rounds now.  If you want a preview of the DVD your library probably has a couple copies somewhere in their network and you could go that route to check it out.  However, the DVD is really wonderful.

    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
    • Have you measured? 🙂
    • I'm bad about taking pictures, but here are a few Hole 1 on Duke, looking toward the green. The elevated green with bunkers surrounding it was a theme. The other theme was pin placements that were tough - this one is pretty far left. There were basically no easy pins on this day.     Hole 3 at Pine Needles. An extremely cool hole. Hole 5 at Pine Needles. The picture doesn't do the green site justice. Green of 6 at Southern Pines. A wild green, and a really cool setting at the edge of the property: Hole  Tee shot on 5 at Tobacco Road. Flag is on the flag, the huge fairway is to the right. Hole 8 at Tobacco Road. Downhill, medium length par 3 with this pin in the front part of the green. Really cool looking shot. A look at the pin placement and cottage on Tobacco Road 14. I hit one of my best shots of the trip here, to about 15 feet.
    • Yes, but season 2 being all of six episodes is a bit of a let-down, even if the season itself wasn't.
    • This is one of the greatest posts I've ever seen in my life on sports message boards like this!! Bravo, Sir!! 👏
