I'm looking to fill in the gap between my driver and irons. I average about 250 with my driver. My 4 iron I hit 180 and my 3 hybrid I'm 190-195. I need to fill the gap and I have 2 clubs to work with. The VR Pro 3 wood I bought I can only get about 220 and it really goes too high, tends to balloon, I think it because of the regular flex shaft. I screwed up selling the Nike SQ 3 wood because I could hit hit nearly as far as my dirver, but I had to get the newest thing, big mistake. I've been looking around and have hit a few but nothing really stood out as clear favorites and I come to realize that just because I hit something good on the range don't mean it plays good on the course. The VR Pro 2 hybrid is a perfect example.

I'm thinking about a Ping i15 13* strong 3 wood and a G15 17* 4 wood.

Thoughts?

My thought is it is only good if you hit them well.  Why not pick a SQ 3 and 4 wood since you know you hit them well?

just go out to the shop and hit a few, what feels good is what you should get!

I'll say this again it's the shaft most of the time that makes the club ( for drivers and fairways )

just try and buy.

for me the taylormade R11 works great, you can even ajust the loft on this one.

Dirver: Mizuno JPX 825 9,5 Fujikura Orochi Red Eye Stiff 65 g.
3 wood: Mizuno JPX 825 14 Fujikura Orochi Red Eye Stiff 75 g.
Hybrid: Mizuno JPX 825 18 Fujikura Orochi Red Eye Stiff 85 g.
Irons: Mizuno MP 59 3 / PW KBS Tour stiff shaft ( Golf Pride Niion )
Wedges: Taylormade ATV Wedges 52 and 58 ( Golf Pride Niion )
putter: Taylormade ghost series 770 35 inch ( Super Stroke slim 3.0 )
Balls: Taylormade TP 5

y not a 4wood? i'd suggest going to get fitted for one...as mentioned it might be worth while to look at a r11 due to the adjustability of the lofts but, it's not the least-expensive option. i'd also suggest at looking at trading in your 3 wood since you clearly don't like the flight/performance of it....could help offset the cost of the r11, and leaves you the ability to put possibly a 5 wood in the bag or another hybrid if you need more 'long' clubs.

Scored a Ping g15 4 wood on eBay this morning. I'll put that in the bag a give it a try. I'll still be on the lookout for another 3 wood but I guess I'm in no rush. I'm having knee surgery on Friday and will be out for a few weeks.
