So I'm pretty much trying to revamp my swing a bit. My posture and alignment is a lot better and I was told I wasn't using my shoulders enough and was using too much arms. I've been trying to keep my left elbow straight and I can do this with relative ease up until the top of the back swing. It's impossible for me to have the club parallel to my target at the top of the backswing without bending my elbow. It's really frustrating because I feel like I can't make a full swing like this. Went to the course today and I was coming in at too steep a angle and creating big divots before the ball. Is there any drills that can help your left elbow stay straight and does anyone know what causes this? I feel like no matter how much I turn my shoulders it would be physically impossible to keep my left elbow straight at the top.

watch any pro swing, none of them are completely straight at the top, those that are close have turned there hips properly allowing the shoulders to follow

try your normal swing and stop when you get to your limit, then just swivel your hips, you'll soon find your in the right position

I can't keep my left elbow straight, or keep my right elbow tight on the back swing, many seniors can't. But I do make diviot's after striking the ball. That has to do with shifting the weight forward. Check out the slide your hips thread.
