Hi everyone. I new to the game. started playing about three week. went to the range with me father in law and now i am hooked. went to the range couple times and really enjoy it. i know that driving the ball is not all of it. I am interest in getting my own set of clubs. Not sure what i need besides the obvious. I am currently using my father in laws travel set so bag is already set. what do i need to get me ready. i am not looking to spend alot of money since its my first set. i guess i get better and earn some money then invest in a good set.

so whats good out there? besides the major brands? how many clubs? i know i need shoes, bag, towel, and tees. when i comes to clubs i am clueless. can anyone point me in some direction. should i go pro shop or golf store?

welcome aboard man!  i'm in charlotte...lots of good golf in the carolinas!

as far as getting started, i would suggest going on craigslist and picking up a starter set.  you can search "golf clubs" or "starter golf", and you should be able to find something for pretty cheap.  i got an entire set for 45 bucks!  keep in mind, they are pretty old clubs, but that's all you need to get started.

once you decide whether or not this is a sport that you want to invest in, THEN you should consider upgrading to some "gently used" clubs.  after playing a season or two with those, THEN you might consider buying something brand new.

i think alot of folks (myself included) get turned off from this wonderful sport because they THINK that you have to spend a ton of money just to get started.  at this point in your golf development, it doesn't matter if you're using tiger woods' golf clubs!
