The elevation in northern NM makes it about 20 degrees cooler during the day in the summer and about 15 degrees cooler during the day in the winter. Because northern NM is high desert, it cools off significantly at night. July and August are the monsoon months for New Mexico and far east Arizona. Basically a high pressure hot cap sits over Texas Mid June-Mid September, which pushes precipitation and cooler weather to the west (NM) Tomorrow Dallas high of 105 low of 80 Santa Fe high of 82 low of 56

You'd be suprised to know how many Texan's frequent New Mexico and Colorado year round.  A couple months ago I drove to Ruidoso to pick up my Oryx mount from my Taxidermist who was on vacation (saved me a drive down to Comfort) and when I pulled in to the condo/time share I think I saw maybe 2 NM license plates!  Have fun on your trip!  I haven't ventured out to Black Mesa or Paa ko Ridge but the local coarses you mentioned are excellent.  UNM Championship course and Arroyo are great for the cost.  UNM is a very Fun course!

Nice to see you all getting some rain over the past couple months. The Las Conchas fire did some terrible damage including burning up parts of Pueblo de Cochiti golf course (which has recovered and reopened). I really love NM, and visit as much as I can for the friendly people, great food, clean cool mountain air, snowboarding, fishing, and golf.

Beautiful course with wide, forgiving fairways. Severely sloping greens, kind of slow like their pace of play. Several blind tee shots. I loved them all and look forward to playing them again. All afternoon rounds were under $50 including cart. We teed off at Black Mesa at 0715am--it was $70 per person with cart. Pueblo de Cochiti was my favorite--it was walkable, the best value, the easiest, had the best pace of play, and the friendliest staff. Paa-Ko Ridge was the best golf course, the most challenging, the most scenic and in the best condition. My best score was at Paa-Ko-Ridge. There are three nines at Paa-Ko and the first nine (which I really wanted to play) was closed----Wedding rehearsal on the first tee. Black Mesa--no way could you possibly walk the course. Very dramatic scenery, very fun course, some blind tee shots (there are aiming flags). Greens were fuzzy/hairy and pace of play was slow.

I live for the afternoon rates, the heat is tough, but sure beats paying full price!!  I think I might play Cochit this weekend or next.

    • It isn't about maintaining focus 100% of the time when you are on the course. It is getting focus back for the shot at hand. Even PGA tour players will chat with their caddies or opponents about non-golf stuff, but then lock in. It is hard to try to constantly be 100% locked in for 4+ hours.  Totally normal thing to happen. You really only need a few moments of focus.  This is where a pre-shot routine helps. Maybe you need to add something that gets the focus back.  I just focus on every shot like a puzzle that needs solved. I like solving puzzle and problems. So, I try to be curious. Which then enhances focus. I think it lets me take each shot at hand. It lets me have the down time between shots. What I do is just get to the ball, and then start gathering information. Yardage, lie, wind, where is the pin at, etc.. Then I figure out what I want to do.  It's not like I can't shut off the thoughts and focus when I need to. I only need to focus for a few minutes before each shot.
