Getting in a quick 9 this afternoon and was struggling with the driver a bit. My dad joins us and notices my stance is getting really wide. I adjust to shoulder width apart and boom straight drives and irons the rest of the round. Its amazing how the simplest things can affect your swing. Sometimes it is nice to play with someone who knows your swing as well as you do.

That isn't an uncommon mistake. Every now and then I catch myself doing it, most often with the driver. I'm taking my stance, and shuffling my feet around, and suddenly something just doesn't seem quite right. I look down and my feet are about 3 or 4 inches farther apart than normal. Fortunately, I usually catch it before the swing. It seems to happen on holes when I know that I want a solid hit... like my subconscious is setting a firm base for a mammoth swing... and that's exactly the best way to get just the opposite..

hmmm...I'll have to look into this, maybe this could be a problem with me. I've really been fading my driver more lately, when I used to have quite the draw with it...

I like to go with a "weight system". The faster I plan on swinging, the more weight I imagine is at my feet. Then I imagine that I'm going to lift that weight and that will intuitively determine how far apart my feet need to be.

I did a video on this about 2 years ago. It's not the best video I've ever done but it illustrates my point nicely.

Equipment, Setup, Finish, Balance, and Relax. All equal in importance and all dependent on each other. They are the cornerstones of a good golf swing.
