Hello all - the Masters begins today, spring is here, we are all pumped & ready for all the drama which always unfolds behind the trees which line Magnolia Lane. But, another issue on gear: as a cursed LEFTY (because we never get to test out equipment, because the demo days NEVER have lefty stock and sheepish grins are all you get when you bitch about it) I have always had to go by gut feel when buying gear......so I look to you guys and your opinions for feedback which will help me make decisions: has anybody had a chance yet to play with the Ping Rapture irons? Can they/ do they compare well to the Titleist 755s? I have had the Ping i3s for an eternity now - have never really raved or moaned about them - they've just been a part of me for a long time. Now I am headed for hopefully, a single digit handicap, and it's the right moment to step up to the plate with some spanking new irons.....

I think 755s are Player's cavity and are less forgiving compared to the Rapture. However, Rapture is more of a game improvement and is much more expensive... hehehe... I tried both clubs on a demo day. Both are really nice clubs but I think these two are not comparable... Correct me if I am wrong but I would maybe compare Rapture with 775CB? However since you will be moving into single handicap you could use the 755. Mizuno MP60 is really nice too if you are getting into the single handicap region...

Comparing the Raptures to the 755s is a bit of an apples to oranges thing. As hypergolf said, the 755 is more of a players iron, while the Rapture pretty much qualifies as an ultra game improvement club. By way of comparison, the 755s are in the same category with the Callaway X-20 tours, Cobra CB, and close to the TaylorMade R7 TP. The Raptures are sledgehammers. They're not dissimilar to complete hybrid sets such as the Cleveland Hi-Bore irons, or the TourEdge JMAX Bazookas from a couple years back.

So far everyone is right. The Rapture are definatley a game improvement iron. Curiously as they gave suggestions they failed to tell you that ping does make two players iron though that would compare to the 755. First the i5 iron that came out with the G5 line is a players cavity back that if you have i3s ought to be a real comfortable upgrade for you. They are a nice combination of workability with forgiviness. Also, their main players iron is the S58. It is a complete players iron with less emphasis on forgiviness (although they are fairly forgiving) and more on workability. I hope to add the S58s to my bag this year. I have hit them several times and I love the feel. Hope this helps

I agree with NM Golf in that the Ping S58 have a nice feel, i contemplated getting them but wanted to stick with Titleist as Ive always played them. I think if you want something compareable to the 755s I would say check the S58s out, they give you a nice feel, playability, and are workable, but also give you forgiveness. My complaint with them is the cast feel but Ive been playing forged for quite some time. Overall I would go with the S58s over raptures, but just my opinion :)
